Windsor Spitfires 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Good team defense beat the Spits. Froggett gets beat on a 2-1 , 2 PP goals. Rebound on their 5th was the only questionable non-save. Wasn't his fault, they had better scoring chances and he made some stellar saves or it could have been worse. Our PP has been stagnant. Not sure I want our best shooters playing the point. Protas hands needs to be in front of the net. Flint no slouch with the new McCue. It's that time of year teams tighten up. We should not have been pinching with a !-0 lead late jn the first period. That goal really changed the game. Was relatively even before that. We took some undisciplined penalties although I disagree on The Protas interference call better come to play Sunday or it could be fugly.

Before the game I said to my buddy this could be a classic trap game, looking past Flint onto the Knights and it was.

I would keep the pitchforks away, they were due to lose a home game. It was the first regulation home loss since October. Losing this game could be the best thing at the moment, wake the boys up a bit. They usually respond with better games after a dud.

I would go with Morneau on that first line with Greentree and Protas on Sunday. Need more speed with Greentree and Protas. Also, need to see more production from Spellacy. Yeah he skates fast and works hard, and I enjoy watching him play, but we need to start seeing some points. He is on pace to score fewer goals than last season.

What's the deal with Davis? Injured again I see, he played against Sarnia and was injured again. He's not big but should not always be getting injured.

Okay, before I pass out here...

The good:

- Froggett played well. A 2on1, a really good one-timer, and then picking the high glove like that? Add in the EN and a defensive breakdown... he didn't play bad at all.
- Protas with another assist. That's a good thing, right?
- I liked the third-period effort. They just ran into a hot Day.
- I'm struggling to find much else that I liked...

The bad;

- When you can't put two passes together, you better have the speed. When you don't have the speed, you better be able to pass. They had neither. It wasn't from a lack of effort, just one of those "if it can go wrong, it will" ideas.
- It felt like, no matter what they tried, nothing was going right. If you pull off those moves/plays routinely, 9 times out of 10, they connect or produce.
- The PK needs work; can't allow multiple PP goals when your offence is struggling.

From what I'm understanding, Davis and Costello could return soon, even possibly on Sunday.

Am I worried about London? No. If you can't get up for London, what are we doing? There are no excuses. Home to the Knights in front of a Provincial broadcast and likely a big crowd? Bring it on.

From my perspective the team had no interest in being there last night. Nothing was in sync, there was zero pressure…just flat! How you let mccue get his hattrick with seconds on the clock is baffling!! He shit disturbed all night and didnt attract any heat, and hes easy to dislike lol! That was a total team letdown for whatever reason, lets hope it was simply looking ahead.
I am getting concerned with some of the tendencies im seeing, few more games might be quite telling!

The game last night is why I don't talk " ahead" about the playoffs. Not interested in discussing how we match up to other teams in the second or 3rd rounds. Spits need/must win the first round first game first. And then we can talk about game 2 of the 1st round. If they take anyone of those games lightly ( like last night) they will be in wash rinse repeat mode from 2 years ago. Teams much like Flint come to play and the Spits think they can coast through, not gonna happen.
Already pointed out by others that sometimes you need a loss like this to learn a valuable lesson. Let's hope they use that lesson wisely. I think they will and win or lose Sunday they will at least be competitive.
I also agree Morneau needs to move back on that top line. Belchetz back with Nesbitt's line. Team was far more effective when they were aligned that way.
Be safe.

Can't disagree with much of this. Sure they can go out and win Sunday but I don't think that changes how poorly they played last night.
