Windsor Spitfires 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

Will be tough one no doubt with Protas,Davis out along with Eichler
Combined the 3 of them have 48 Goals and 62 Assists-110 points
Barrie is missing 7G,9A-16 points with their 3 guys out Derbridge 5G,5A,Eliasson 2G,3A, and Dubowsky 1A.
Spits however are 2-0-1 when Protas has missed a game this, 1st 3 of the season scoring 21G and allowing 11.
Should mention Greentree missed the 1st game of the season and Spellacy missed the 1st 3 like Protas.
 
So Spits going with 19 players tonight
2G,7D and 10F,with Froggett, Garden and Protas ill,and Davis and Eichler still out with injuries.
Can't complain about the 1st period considering, though I thought Costanzo should have stopped the lone goal scored in the 1st.

Maybe the soft defense should of covered the guy in front..
 
The squad clearly appeared sluggish, the bug going around the team must be pretty bad. Despite the sluggish play, it was somewhat of a winnable game.

The 2nd goal was on a bad giveaway by Kennedy (he's been good since the trade, everyone makes mistakes), and the 3rd goal I have no clue what Costanzo was doing although he played great otherwise.

Could be an ugly one tomorrow against another team due for a win in Oshawa. I am assuming Protas will remain out.

The benefit of having the division won is you can have weekends like this (illness bug) and not worry about it in the standings.

The good.. McNamara scores his 1st as a Spit. Joey played well 39 saves, made s few saves he shouldn't have and would like back goals1 and 3, but he was not the issue. Spelllacy had rocket legs tonight. Thats where it stops. The great team defensive game Thursday was not repeated tonight. It was a 1 snd done. Lines combos did not work. PP sucked moose weenies tonight 0 shots on a 4 minute!!! Based on 1 game without Protas, he is our MVP. We hardly had more than 5 good scoring chances.Greentree needs to dial in his accuracy, if he did, he'd have 50 goals by now. That's constructive criticism if he wants to excel at the next level. I know the team is dealing with some sickness but lick the wounds and regroup for tomorrow. Cristoforo, Morneau, Greentree, Abraham all -3 tonight McNamara and Woodall were +1. The big guns were loaded with blanks. These games happen unfortunately

Actually the goal by McNamara was 2nd as a Spit as he scored the other night vs NBay.
As for the PP especially the 4 minute one Greentree missed the 1st 2 minutes being treated plus with Protas and Davis out of the lineup definitely made the difference re the lines and PP personnel.
Thought Joey should have stopped 2 of the 3 goals he allowed,also thought team for the 1st 2 periods were in it, after that ran out of gas more then likely due to illness plus those missing. From what I heard a couple of others could have sat weren't 100% that's for sure .

Defense was awful
 
Teams are going to have off nights. That's the reality of hockey and the OHL. Allowing 43 shots just two days after allowing 19 isn't something you want to repeat, but it happens. The first goal and third goals, for sure, Costanzo would want back; a spinning backhand 5-hole and a bounce off the shoulder? Yep, not great. Lots of minus-2 and minus-3s on the team and you never want that. However, every team has them at some point and I'd rather do it now than in March. Hopefully the team can get healthy and play a full roster against Oshawa.
