Nothing surprising out of the scratches. Martin was listed as UBI the other day, assuming the same.

Hopefully Mathurin slots back in soon.

Surprised Windbiel is backing up? If we can only play 4, 08s in a single game… what happens if we need to go to the backup?
Going 11 forward 7 d man again.

Notice how they people who brought it up didn’t deny it’s Spellacy?

That’s who it is. Sorry if it upsets you there is a name to your rumour. Either say nothing at all, or give the name. Enough of this tip-toe around the situation.
Fishing experiment? No response means zero 2 of us heard a rumor from our own reliable sources that a big name wanted out. I cannot confirm or deny the name was Spellacy. No name was attached from my source Spellacy name was brought up by a replying poster who surmised possibly it was Spellacy in their opinion. I only know it is a core player and is a 06 that would surprise most. I have zero knowledge to exactly which player. Like I posted earlier it is not right to tag a player as wanting out until said rumor is confirmed by that player or Bowler publicly. .

Still jumior hockey with trade implications. Canada taking a 2 year dump tonight. Trades with any players can be announced. London gets 3 of 5 players back early. Overall Canada needs to rethink their development process. The States clearly has for a decade and these other small populated Countries making us look like crap. Embarrassing being 2-3 in 5 games. Cameron not the guy. Only 1 Canadian had more than 1 hoal in the tournament. Carter George was not the problem.

Didn’t even have a player in the top 30 of scoring. They need to start taking the best players and not just role players. Find a coach that can coach to players strengths and maybe not cancel so many practices and morning skates when team struggles

Are trades allowed when your team is done... or when the tournament is done? I thought it was the latter.

As for the Spitfires... I'll give thoughts in a bit. Some really good, some not so good, and I can't wait to get this trade deadline over with.

I just saw it posted after the team is finished not the entire tournament.

Ok the points just keep coming. But so does the lack of 60 min play, so do the bad goals, so does the inability to clear the zone when needed. They gotta clean some of this stuff up!! Id love to be sure we can score 5+ every game but that’s unrealistic.
Wish i knew what was cooking !

Interesting on the player wanting out. If it's on '06 core player, one would think its Spellacy. I could see why, he doesn't play on the 1st pp unit or 1st line. His production has not been what many expected. Possibly, he feels not having a spot on the top PP has impacted his production. That's ok, he's a good player, a hard worker, if he wants out that is his right. Again no clue if its home, just don't see who else it would be.

Regarding tonight's game, yeah they gave up 5, but when playing a weak opponent you can tell the boys stray for the game plan and defensive detail.

Greentree and Protas are magic. Protas is an elite playmaker, but he is also a sniper. If he has the puck in the slot, it's going in the back of the net, off the post or crossbar and in.

Greentree now leads the OHL in points with 65. Protas just behind. Here's an interesting stat. Dating back to at least the year 2000, no Spitfires team has ever had two players post 100 points in the same season. This season, Greentree is on pace for 120, Protas about 115 points. Maybe this squad does have a chance to win the OHL if they add to the defense? Should be an exciting week.

Yeah, it’s getting weird. They just keep winning.

We’re sitting two points back from London, with London having a game in hand.

I don’t know it’s Spellacy. I think I mentioned him first as an opinion, as I couldn’t imagine any other “big name” that I’d guess. Having the “06” information, it’s Protas, Greentree, Davis, Spellacy, Christoforo, Walton, Woodall or Gaymes.

Christoforo’s having a stellar year, as is Walton IMO. Protas and Washington couldn’t have wanted more out of his first OHL Season, and if the Captain wanted out, you’d expect a big mess behind the scenes that wouldn’t translate to 57pts in 37 games. I don’t consider Gaymes a big name as he doesn’t get regular playing time.

Leaving Davis, Woodall, Spellacy. I like all 3, and want all 3 to stay. Davis’s productions picked up and I feel for his size, and his draft position he’s progressing as expected. I think he was a bit more banged up early than we knew, and it seems he’s finally back to playing his game and points are following. I rarely notice Woodall out there, which isn’t the worst thing for a D. He gets his sticks in lanes, pushes guys to the outside well for being mid-sized. Local Kid, playing top 4 minutes despite being a 10th round selection. Then there’s Spellacy. A top pick that’s NHL Drafted, and looks similar to last year. Not a bad thing, he’s a good player, with insane speed, maybe the best in the league? I’d argue it in an eye test. From America. Picked hockey over football, maybe Chicago wants a different look, or more ice?
Apologize if mentioning him caused havoc, but in my opinion, it makes the most sense.

The most surprising? Tell me it’s Greentree. Captain, Leading the league in points, not thanks to, but with significant help from new linemate this season, Ilya Protas.

Either London’s getting some disheartened players back after getting stomped around or we’re going to see some guys with a chip on their shoulder turn it up.

I’d consider myself a numbers guy, and I have been rather opposed to going in this year. The initial rumor I heard had Abraham going out. But the more I look at the numbers, Goals For, Wins, Joeys Save %, Home Record, Lead in the West, How close we are to LDN for the conference… the more I think, go for it.

I’ve been pretty content with moving 12 knowing he’s gone next year, but the last week has made me really hope we hang onto him.

In the last 3 games, the good? 25 Goals For. the Bad? 15 Goals Against.

Need to sharpen up the defensive game eventually and learn to hang onto a lead.

But, 6 points. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Okay, a bunch of thoughts...

First, the goals against:

1. Point shot, rebound gets behind the D, glove side. The way the PK is set up, nobody takes out the guy in front. It happened multiple times with different D. Eichler tried to get to this forward but was too late.
2. It looked like a 3-on-3 coming back and a crossing of the paths got the Storm forward open. I think Costanzo wants that one back.
3. Point shot tipped in front.
4. Point shot, rebound goes blocker side. Cristoforo takes his man out in front, which causes Costanzo to spin to his left. A Storm forward gets away from Greentree, has open cage, and Costanzo can't get into position in time.
5. Looks like a point shot that finds a way past Costanzo.

- First, when you score nine goals, regardless of opponent, you're doing well.
- Giving up five isn't ideal; you won't be able to get away with that defence against the Knights, Rangers, Otters, IceDogs, or any other contender, really.
- Protas with four goals and five points. He made it look easy at times. You can't tell me Bowler didn't strike gold with that pick.
- Greentree with a goal and five points. He's now in the league lead, one ahead of Misa. It's remarkable how he's come out of the break.
- Belchetz quietly snags two more assists. He didn't get the fanfare of the other two but wow.
- Costanzo didn't have his greatest game but he played alright. I'm sure he'd like a few goals back. He made big saves when needed, too.
- I feel for the Storm - that's a young goaltender and very young D. We've been there before. Hopefully they can find their way next season.
- Solid fight from Winegard. Got opened up but no damage done. Nice toe-to-toe with a big, willing Spada. It stemmed from Spada giving Davis multiple shots in the corner earlier in the game. It had to be 3-4 solid stick/punch shots and Davis kept looking for blood on his mouth. I knew someone would respond and I'm glad it was Winegard. He seems to be the "I'll get the payback" guy.
- I wonder who will get randomly yelled at when Cristoforo leaves? Maybe they toss names in a hat and pick one?
- The Kids Takeover seemed to go over well. Props to those who were able to get involved!

As for the trade deadline stuff... the stuff earlier regarding the 06 who wants an increased role is pretty accurate. I'll leave it at that for now. Stuff is being floated around, generally, ideas and such, so we'll see what Bowler does. We know he's aiming for next season to be the big one so we'll see if prices are reasonable between now and Jan 10 for tweaking.

It is after your team has been eliminated. They give the kids a chance to come home so most are at least 24 hours after.

Spits now 9-1-0-1 in their last 11 games and 6-0 in their last 6.
Thought Joey should have had 2 goals that he allowed, won't blame him on the non interference call goal, team needs to play better defensively with a big lead.
Spits have scored 36 goals in those 6 and have allowed 18 goals.
Costanzo has allowed 12 of them in 5 starts,2,1,0,4,5 and Windbiel 6 in his 1 start.
Mathurin has missed all 6 games plus 2 others.
Spits are 7-0-1 without him in the lineup, interesting in the 8 games he has missed Spits have scored 52 goals and allowed 25.
Last night unbelievable performances from Protas and Greentree 5 points each Protas with 4G,1A,Greentree the reverse 1G4A,Abraham with 1G,3A.
Protas and Greentree both have 14 points in their last 5 games, while Abraham has 11 in the same stretch.
Next 4 games on the road 2 this weekend Erie and Niagara, and next Friday at London and Saturday should be interesting especially with the trade deadline next week to boot.
Meant to mention because of the all the goals scored by both teams Ryan Abraham gets credit for the game winner his 1st of the season.

Windsor racking up the wins.
This was more difficult than it needed to be.
Top line of Windsor played a rest game.
Joey played well other than that 1 soft goal. Especially on the 5 on 3 pp Guelph had.
Way too many penalties by Windsor. Playing with fire if that becomes a trend.
Defense played mostly soft as usual. This hasn't changed in a couple years with Bowler.
They just don't like checking a clearing the front of net. Maybe that is a bit of coaching choice.
Onto next game

One thing to keep an eye on. Costanzo hasn't been moving well in net the past 2 games. Been flexing his leg after whistles beeb moving slowly post to post after whistles as well.
I noticed that as well. He seemed to struggle last night focusing on the puck and was fumbling around with it a bit. Pain takes focus away.

I wonder what the status of Froggett is?

I did say earlier in the year that a solid backup to Costanzo might be a good move for the Spits if they are serious about a run. They have 3 very capable goalies now but none have any real experience.

Here's hoping Mathurin is ready to go for this weekend. I'm also assuming one of the backups will play either Saturday or Sunday?

Take too many penalties against their opponents this weekend and it will likely cost them. Be safe.

That’s tough, Froggetts shown big game qualities, but being injured doesn’t help.

No idea on his return status, but I’ve seen him at the WFCU during games, and I’ve heard he made the recent roadtrip, so I can’t imagine he’s out that long.

Costanzo may just be a bit sore, but an experienced backup isn’t the worst idea.
I think the decision that needs to be made is, are we trying to win the conference.

If yes, a backup acquisition may be required. If no, getting Windbiel/Newlove some game time at the expense of a few points is probably something We can afford while hanging onto the division

Last I heard, he was still up in the air. However, I know he's been working with the trainers to get back so we'll have to play it by ear. It's a good sign, at least.

I'm torn on this one. I agree, they need someone in case Costanzo goes down for any length of time. However, say you bring in an experienced backup... what do you do with the three you have now? I'd imagine one gets moved in said deal?!
Here's hoping Mathurin is ready to go for this weekend.

Don't be shocked if he's ready for Saturday.

He hurt his leg on a bad give away by protas who passed the puck up the middle from goal line and opposing team shot puck off of post. He was slow getting up and that’s when he started flexing. I figured since he stayed in game it was a minor tweak but if he still showed signs last night then i’d think he needs to rest a bit before it gets worse.
