Interesting on the player wanting out. If it's on '06 core player, one would think its Spellacy. I could see why, he doesn't play on the 1st pp unit or 1st line. His production has not been what many expected. Possibly, he feels not having a spot on the top PP has impacted his production. That's ok, he's a good player, a hard worker, if he wants out that is his right. Again no clue if its home, just don't see who else it would be.
Regarding tonight's game, yeah they gave up 5, but when playing a weak opponent you can tell the boys stray for the game plan and defensive detail.
Greentree and Protas are magic. Protas is a elite playmaker, but he is also a sniper. If he has the puck in the slot, it's going in the back of the net, off the post or crossbar and in.
Greentree now leads the OHL in points with 65. Protas just behind. Here's an interesting stat. Dating back to at least the year 2000, no Spitfires team has ever had two players post 100 points in the same season. This season, Greentree is on pace for 120, Protas about 115 points. Maybe this squad does have a chance to win the OHL if they add to the defense? Should be an exciting week.
Yeah, it’s getting weird. They just keep winning.
We’re sitting two points back from London, with London having a game in hand.
I don’t know it’s Spellacy. I think I mentioned him first as an opinion, as I couldn’t imagine any other “big name” that I’d guess. Having the “06” information, it’s Protas, Greentree, Davis, Spellacy, Christoforo, Walton, Woodall or Gaymes.
Christoforo’s having a stellar year, as is Walton IMO. Protas and Washington couldn’t have wanted more out of his first OHL Season, and if the Captain wanted out, you’d expect a big mess behind the scenes that wouldn’t translate to 57pts in 37 games. I don’t consider Gaymes a big name as he doesn’t get regular playing time.
Leaving Davis, Woodall, Spellacy. I like all 3, and want all 3 to stay. Davis’s productions picked up and I feel for his size, and his draft position he’s progressing as expected. I think he was a bit more banged up early than we knew, and it seems he’s finally back to playing his game and points are following. I rarely notice Woodall out there, which isn’t the worst thing for a D. He gets his sticks in lanes, pushes guys to the outside well for being mid-sized. Local Kid, playing top 4 minutes despite being a 10th round selection. Then there’s Spellacy. A top pick that’s NHL Drafted, and looks similar to last year. Not a bad thing, he’s a good player, with insane speed, maybe the best in the league? I’d argue it in an eye test. From America. Picked hockey over football, maybe Chicago wants a different look, or more ice?
Apologize if mentioning him caused havoc, but in my opinion, it makes the most sense.
The most surprising? Tell me it’s Greentree. Captain, Leading the league in points, not thanks to, but with significant help from new linemate this season, Ilya Protas.
Either London’s getting some disheartened players back after getting stomped around or we’re going to see some guys with a chip on their shoulder turn it up.
I’d consider myself a numbers guy, and I have been rather opposed to going in this year. The initial rumor I heard had Abraham going out. But the more I look at the numbers, Goals For, Wins, Joeys Save %, Home Record, Lead in the West, How close we are to LDN for the conference… the more I think, go for it.
I’ve been pretty content with moving 12 knowing he’s gone next year, but the last week has made me really hope we hang onto him.
In the last 3 games, the good? 25 Goals For. the Bad? 15 Goals Against.
Need to sharpen up the defensive game eventually and learn to hang onto a lead.
But, 6 points.
