Just following box scores. Seems like alot of minor penalties.
Refs setting the tone for the season, some early year sloppy play, or 2 teams trying to set a tone? I'm sure it'll settle down once all the bodies are back n teams settle in.
Enjoy

Saginaw taking a lot of stupid penalties

Also I don’t think that was goalie interference. Should’ve just been cross checking imo. If Davis doesn’t get cross checked by forgione then he doesn’t run oke.

Belchetz, Christoforo, and Abraham all having great games.

Hopefully belchetz can get that first one this game.

Nesbitt with the GWG in OT. 5-4 final.

Not a huge fan of the 4 GA but the two points are nice. Costanzo played well and the goals weren't all on him by any stretch.

3/5 on the PP, 2/4 on the PK.

Cristoforo 1g 2a, Abraham 1g1a, Nesbitt 1g1a, Belchetz 2a. Nice debut!

Tighten up the D a bit and get ready for Sarnia on Friday.

Nesbitt is looking real good OT winner and 1 A, 7 shots, belchetz 6 shots but no goal unfortunately and 2 A. Abraham 6 shots, 1G 1A

Think someone will really want Abraham. Last 2 years over a ppg and looking dangerous here tonight again. Yes only 5’8 but can fill the net.
So many guys on Windsor that can score I think they could trade him away for picks and use those picks to acquire another d man.

The biggest knock on Abraham is his discipline. He's prone to taking bad penalties because he gets involved beyond where he should. If he can cut those down, that would increase his value significantly.

Great start to the season,9 different players with at least 1 point,5 different goal scorers, the guys u wanted have good games did,ie Abraham, Morneau, Nesbitt, Belchetz, Davis, liked Christoforo's game 3 points all on the PP,Mathurin steady veteran game winning assist, strong games from Lemieux and Outwater, Garden looked fine especially for a rookie, Costanzo solid 3rd period, while I didn't like the PK,loved the PP.
Will be interesting when Greentree, Protas, Spellacy and Woodall come back into the lineup, that's for sure quite the talent missing.

Spitfires are the top team in the OHL and Christoforo is leading the league in points. What a time.

Made the trip up tonight for a fun game. GA needs to be addressed. Costanzo didn’t look bad, 3rd goal he HAS to have, but the other 3, not much you can do. I did think he looked better than Oke, but Oke had some really nice D in front of him last season.

Seeing this team, holy hell are they big. I feel we brought in Garden just so people can see what a normal human looks like next to Belchetz lol.

Belchetz didn’t disappoint, he’s gonna be a star. Abraham looked like everything we want an OA scoring forward to be. Morneau appeared to be the clear choice over of what we had available for 04s.
Two standouts for me (which sounds easy now with the point sheet) are Christoforo and Nesbitt. Christoforo blocked a couple shots, I thought had the trajectory of being in. Add in the points? Idk, he may be back in season one form and then some.

Also Nesbitt looks far improved from last season, and is showing chemistry with Belchetz.

The amount of offensive weapons the spits have, along with size, is a scary site. I’m not overly optimistic, but I am hopeful. And more than anything, excited. This is going to be a fun season. Not to mention, I’d say 3 of (what will be) our Top 5 forwards were out tonight.

Nice Mem Cup Package pregame and a sold out crowd in Saginaw. Tough situation for a lot of these kids playing their first OHL games and they delivered.

There’s some depth with this team, and the fact we’ll be getting a whole forward line of guys coming Back from NHL Pre-Season games to mix in? I’m excited

Windsor opens up with a win.
Game was pretty even.
Windsor had refs on their side.
Got benefit of couple posts.
Competitive game. Better than almost all games last year.
Windsor player out worked the Spirit player on Ot to win it.
If they stay competitive in games fans will like to watch more games this year.
Defense needs to tighten up would help too.

Agree with pretty much that you wrote on well expressed, will say didn't like our PK,but when u score 3 of 5 on the PP,I can forgive and I can live with giving up 2, 5 on 5 goals especially when like u wrote Joey should have had 1 of them,D will be a process,Mathurin adds maturity to the group and perhaps Christoforo can work off the excellent game he had last night.
No doubt adding Greentree, Protas, and Spellacy upfront, along with Woodall on the backend will definitely make a difference as we play on.
Good 1st game for the group, especially the 1st 40 minutes, and being on the road.
Changes I would make Friday and it's not punishment related ie poor play more so getting everyone in before the big guys come back, would be assuming Woodall will be ready to go,he replaces Hicks and Manzo, and I would add Greenwell and Brocklehurst upfront and take out Stewart was surprised he was in after not playing the last 2 exhibitions.
That makes 12 and 6 for the forwards and D should the changes I propose, and then Carter Froggett gets the start Friday in goal at Sarnia, and whoever plays the best between him and Costanzo gets the start Saturday night at home.

With Greentree probably playing Friday at Sarnia I would put him and Greenwell and Woodall if healthy in and take out Stewart, Hicks and Manzo out, thus going 12F and 6D.
I then would put Abraham with Greentree and Outwater as 1 line,Morneau Davis and Garden another, and Nesbitt, Belchetz and Martin as another, with Lemieux, Gaymes, and Greenwell the 4th line.

I thought officiating as a whole was pretty bad both ways. Most the Saginaw crowd I talked to agreed with me as well. Saginaw did make more dumb penalties IMO. I think the size of the Spits mixed with some grit is going to create some sloppy games this year, hopefully leading to other teams making some dumb penalties.

Rewatching that game winner, we won because Nesbitt outworked Misa. I’ll take lesser skill with more hustle any day of the week.

Granted OHL officiating is often a target, I thought last night was exceptionally bad. Let a lot of things go, then would yank guys for something minor… until it escalated and they decided to start policing the game themselves

I’m going 1) Greentree/Abraham/Davis, 2) Nesbitt/Belchetz/Garden, 3) Outwater/Morneau/Martin. Mix up the 4th with whomever. I think Lemieux, greenwell, Gaymes is who should play.

As I said before about OHL Officiating, The best go the NHL, which leaves the mediocre ones to make a career in the OHL.
