We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.
What This Means for You:
- If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.

I'm sure Bowler has more foresight than that.
The last few years the top 4 teams had already clarified their picks before draft day.
So to edit a bit. ID's can declare their pick defected but the difference is they don't get the 1st round pick only a second instead. Also I may have mixed up the years because I think it was 2 years ago they had their first defected. Last year's player reported. So they could do it again but, and it is a big but. I'm sure they will ensure their 1st will be reporting. They need to show stability. That means a reach may happen. Be safe.
They got rid of a tough really solid import overage D Sobolev when everyone was thinking they were a playoff team. With high import draft pick this year they can't hold onto a 3rd 4th line import overage with terrible defensive side. They should have moved him if they had good offers.
Agreed. You are not holding on to #13 and throw a high import draft pick out the window.
This. The team is building around the 05/06/07s and Eichler has improved over the last two months or so. I'm not sure there's room for Zhugin right now, esp with a high import pick on the way.
I imagine whatever was being offered was more advantageous for the team receiving Zhugin.
One of Eichler or Zhugin won't be around come September. If Bowler wanted to shoot the moon it can be rationalized to have 2 new ones.
Probably figured they will get roughly the same before the season starts next year. Maybe be able to trade him for an O/A D-man at the worst.
I think you missed the bus on this one. Who really wants Bowler to talk? I have said he comes off very awkward and it would be best for him to say very little. The issue is whether you like it or not he's the face of the franchise because you're not going to get anything out of Savage x2 and Schwab. I see Bowler do a simple videocast with someone who isn't involved in the media he's merely a fan and Bowler still comes off as very awkward. It's more than fair to ask questions about because there isn't a single person out there that figured the the Spits were all of a sudden going to cut Torres loose. Bowler made it a thing by making that comment and nobody else is at fault except for himself.
The 05s are Outwater, Costanzo, Martin, Winegard, Eichler, Greenwell. That's not a strong group and those are your 19 year olds in 24-25. I would be hard pressed to commit to any of those for an OA year.
You can still make a case that selecting a player and declaring him defected this year makes sense.
This year it will work out well either way. Top pick reports or they get 2 1st rounders high in the draft next year. It will just push it all forward 1 year. With the 2 high seconds they should be ok for top rookies this year.
The obvious part of this is Bowler has to/ must make solid picks in the second round. Be safe.
Of the 4 drafts that Bowler has been in charge of, 3 years before 2023 when he selected Deangelis,(36),Ride (20),Niagara didn't have pick that year and Greentree (34).
I see no issues with ability to select, our last draft in 2023 got Nesbitt in the 1st,then didn't have a pick till the 5th where he selected Manzo,then Lavigne in the 6th.
With7 picks in the 1st 4 rounds this upcoming draft,including 4 in the 1st 3 rounds I look forward to this draft,especially 3 in the 1st 25 players,with Niagara and Peterborough's 2nd round picks.
Next year looks interesting too currently Windsor has 5 picks in top 3 rounds,1st,3-2nds and a 3rd.
That's extremely terrible. The Bowler boot lickers will no doubt defend him though.
I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here? This is literally every trade that is made in the OHL. Other than kids with NTC a trade is never discussed with a player and unless they have asked for a trade kids don't want to be traded. This is pretty much standard for all trades . So I'm not sure where you are going with this?
Unless things have drastically changed if you don’t have a NTC you go where they trade you. You do have a choice, you can take the marching orders or leave. Others have done it before , even in the middle of games.
I think the connection being made is that this player has issues and most likely wanted to stay where he was due to said issues. I'm not saying you're wrong but you it's hypocritical to hide behind "it's hockey and a business." Meanwhile Bowler does a solid for someone and brings said player to the Spits and the player hasn't been good. Also prior we saw the Spits did not entertain offers for Zhugin? I think there are numerous examples and it just shows Bowler always has a choice. Not directed at you but a couple Bowler fan boys always said do right for the player. This example isn't doing right by the player.
A player in the past under the old regime ( WR) had a relative in a bad way. Asked not to be traded, he was. My point is not whether it is right or wrong but this happens all the time. It is not just a Bowler thing.
I've already said I'm not a fan of Bowler as a person but he is not stepping outside of the 80-20 rule here so I ask why is this considered an issue?
80% of the time things fall into the " normal" category. 20% of the times things fall into " odd/ one offs" category. So why focus on something that only happens 20% of the time?
Used in HR issues. People tend to bring up the one offs and say that will happen when it normally doesn't.
Managers tend to spend 80 % of their time focused on the 20% of the troubling employees. As a leader you try to get them to focus on the 80% of the people that are not causing issues. Anyway not sure if I explained this well but sorta off the edge of hockey talk so carry on.
