Didn't like Toronto's first period, thought it was careless and too many one and dones that were leading to odd man rushes the other way.

Second and third periods were good from Toronto, powerplay looked threating, started to get longer shifts in the ozone.

Only players game I didn't like tonight was Holmberg, puck died on his stick way too much. I think he would be a fine 4C replacing Kampf for cheap, but as of right now he's playing way to high in the lineup.

So the absence of the best playmaker in the entire universe is the cause of the pp being better?

My minds blown. Quick somebody call rocket security

Yeah but he's gotta at least sell shot. One play he was passed the puck in space between the circles and didn't even look at the net. Mj called it out too.
I like seeing the different looks changing up the lines brings but IMO, Domi isn't good enough to be a long term option on the top line.

This game reminded me of the loss to Minnesota where the Leafs were terrible in the 1st period, but were the better team in the 2nd and 3rd.

Game shouldn’t have been that close. Two 5 on 3’? Come on, that’s stupid carelessness. Tanev and Knies were terrific. Nice snipes by Nylander and McMann.

McCabe with his worst game in a while. Would be nice to get a goal from a Reaves, Kampf, Domi, Paccioretty, Holmberg, Lorentz and Robertson at some point soon.
How bout Matthews too. He's killing me in my Tim's picks the last two weeks.

It was a good game by our boys last night. Outside of some discipline challenges, leading to the two 5 on 3's.... it was well executed. Beyond those two 5 on 3's, we gave up one goal. That's not bad... hard to fault being scored on during a 5 on 3 really... other than giving them up.

Domi, Matthews and Knies looked good together, Domi was really engaged in the play, having these two has linemates. Hopefully this gets some runway.

Reaves didn't even have a bad game. Holmberg needs a change in scenery, although I suppose he's useful depth, once we've made some deals, if he doesn't go the other way as a swap of warm bodies.

Not much to complain about with this game... which I guess goes a long way in explaining why this thread is so short.

Willie 'Snipes' has 29 games(I think) left to get 17 more goals to hit 50.
Love to see him hit that, would be a great accomplishment.
40 should be a lock, only Mathews, McDonald and Vaive have 3 or more consecutive 40 goal seasons. Historic times for individual accomplishments.

Not that it will ever happen but what I’ve notice is when Reaves parks himself infront of the net he’s very good at deflecting pucks. It’s going to lead to nothing but he did it a couple times last night.

I think even though it’s one game plus last year Domi seems more engaged playing with Matthews. Plus it’s straight forward hockey with that line last night.

It would be pretty concerning if he remains healthy and doesn't hit 40.
He should be a lock for that.
Hopefully he's not at 49 for the last week of the season and we get a repeat of how the season ended last year.

Keep Domi with Matthews for the love of god.
It took Keefe till around this time last year to figure out where to put Domi, hopefully Berube has realized it too

Hell, if they really want to I'm not against stacking the second line and having something like this:

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Nylander - Tavares - Marner
McMann - 3C - Robertson
Lorentz - Kampf - Dewar

They need to find a 'C' to balance the lines. Holmberg is not the answer.

Simply has to be about Marner pushing his way onto Matthews line to maximize his pts output for contract reasons.

Definitely, a 3C is very clearly our biggest need right now. My worry is there aren't a lot of names out there so I'm not sure who we can get

Gourde was interesting but he just had surgery and it feels like we're buying Nick Foligno 2.0

Like most people, I think coaches like things they know and they know Matthews/Marner is an elite line that will carry play while being elite defensively

Getting rid of the top line also creates the issue of getting the big 3 enough ice time, and the coach might not want to stack the 2nd line like I did

Nonetheless, I agree it's in the teams best interest to have Domi on L1. It gets him going and I've found Matthews controls the game more when he has to drive the line

Or get a repeat of the Big M stuck on 48 for the last 12 games of the season and booed . I guess Leaf fans never change

This core 4 has had it pretty easy. They split the criticism, imagine if there was only one here and he had to bare the whole load.

I don't get to watch too many uninterrupted Leafs games anymore with a little one now running my show. Luckily for me this west coast swing means she is in bed in and around puck drop :thumbu:. Was fun to get to watch a full 60 minutes for a change lol.

for those of you on the east coast that didn't stay up for the game, it was a pretty solid effort from our group IMO. You might look at the box score and think the PK struggled, but in all reality they did really well IMO. Calgary was awarded 2 very long 5 on 3 peepers that they converted on both times. That said, they actually defended the 5 on 3 very well IMO. Calgary scored on pretty well their only dangerous looks they created on those 5 on 3's. The boys battled for over a minute on each of those disadvantages and gave up next to nothing. Just couldn't get a clear.

The big boys looked great. JT turning back the clock like he's been doing all year, Willy doing Willy things, and Auston really looks to be on the verge of one of his patented heaters where he scores a goal in like 6 straight.

PP was awesome. Woll was kicking. McMann continues to look great. Really not much to dislike about this game other than our discipline

All n all a great road effort. Nothing makes me happier than watching Leafs nation take over away barns

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for one time, show up on Saturday against the Canucks. I am so tired of spending money every year on tickets to watch this team roll through the west coast swing only to lay an egg against the Canucks.

The Canuck fanbase is so insufferable They need to be shut up.
