William Nylander

I though Holmberg on second line would mean +/-=0 . I was wrong.
And thats the risk when u force D on a offensive player. Had not mattered in this game but fck at least give him Mcmann. Live a little. Players with speed energy and offence.

Well whole new team next year or exactly the same. Would not surprise.
They play him and Tavares with Holmberg to have some sort of defensive concience when the scores even or they're ahead . When looking for a goal to get back in the game they move Domi on and off their line but that line would get eaten alive long term .
That said , still think Marner should of been moved to that line . He plays better with Tavares to begin with but would of been interesting to see him and Nylander on a line .

Yes, "he just gave up" so badly that in the last three games he was second in shots, his centre was third, and the three assorted left wingers were fourth, fifth, and sixth.
By comparison Marner was ninth, his centre was first and his left winger was sixth.
He was awful. And stop the Marner comparison, he can be awful without using Mitch to mask his shit play. A complete and utter no show the last four games, steaming garbage. A joke anyone is actually defending his play down the stretch, stick to game 1, at least you don't like foolish.

I'd absolutely consider selling high with Nylander, he'd bring a big return. Everything should be on the table.

Nylander has earned his criticisms with that subpar play over the last couple games. Nobody can really deny that.

But what an indictment on the two supposed superior players in the forward core that when he stopped driving the team and hit a cold streak everything collapsed.

He and an extended Knies can kickstart the next version of the team moving forward

Don't forget this proud moment, when we had the series by the balls. This is our hero that soars above the rest. lmao, we're more damaged than they are....

Berube or Leafs management should put a stop to a shirtless Nylander post game. He comes across as an arrogant, i dont give a bleep type of guy, acts like the fans and worship got to his head. He has some toxic issues, floating around the others teams blue line looking for a breakaway, flying the zone, intimidated vs the Panthers. 11.5 million and Ill show up when i want. Berube even said, Nylander doesnt want me to speak to him aka dont tell him what he does wrong.

I'm not envious of any of the players.

They put in the work.

What they do off the ice has nothing to do with me, nor my life.

You're the one who made nice noises about Marner in his thread and then dumped all over Nylander here.

You scream that he's a "complete and utter no show", and when someone provides actual evidence that you're wrong, you offer insults and repeat your diatribe.

I'm just providing some perspective based on fact - sorry it disproves your rant.

And certainly you could sell high on him, as there's nobody on the team likely to get a higher return.

This. Its a fact that willy was the best player in the ottawa series, the biggest reason we got to round 2 (+ stolarz),was good the first 3 games of round 2. It is also a fact that he needed to be much better in games 4-7. He absolutely needs to stop cheating for breakaway and mailing in backchecks and avoiding hits like the plague.

And it shows how big of a piece he is that when he dropped off, the team did too. Kinda shows his value in the playoffs. He can have moments he puts the team on his back. He can win games in the playoffs. Thats a key difference between him and the other 2 because I don't think there's evidence of them carrying the team on their back in the playoffs. They've had moments for sure. But I truly don't think we win with those 2. Willy, I think we can win with him.

BUT its also true that he needs to improve. Because he's a gamebreaker and being paid what he is games 4-7 are absolutely unacceptable. So yes, he was better than the other 2, but the bar is low. So he also sucked.

But if matthews and marner directed that passengers quote at him...if anyone was a driver in the entire playoffs (9 years worth) its been him. He sucked in game 7, but I don't want to hear it from them.

I didn't hear a post game from him? I hope in the locker cleanouts he takes accountability.

I'll be honest, him and tavares are more likeable personalities than matthews and marner. But im a leafs fan. I dont get attached to players. Im attached to the leaf. So I wouldn't be too torn up to say goodbye to any of the 4. Willy's value is high, but I really don't see any playoff improvement if thats the only change

And he still had more goals and points than anybody else. How bad were the rest.
He had zero points the last four games. Why are we constantly shielding him with others? He fiolded like a cheap suit when it mattered most, anyone watching his half assing defence and still standing up for his play, you're lost. Dude let us down, he left a lot in the tank and it's inexcusable. Incredible talent, mediocre motor.

Mitch had 1 point, Mathews had 1 point, I see the vast difference

Pretty obvious he was a ‘passenger ’ being referred to. Just a terrible effort.

Good luck to this team once he goes from being the 3rd wheel to the top dog.

Nylander really is terrible defensively

One of the most skilled players offensively when he wants to be. But I couldn’t imagine Florida’s team putting up with his play style

I just heard yesterday that when Schmidt came to Florida he was told by the players to play a certain style and stop doing some of the things he was doing. The coaches didn’t have a to say a thing

I think people are still underestimating how dramatically difficult it is dragging along a corpse who plays at 20% of the speed everyone else does (which gets amplified in the playoffs) and hands of stone Holmberg who can't even finish a slice of pizza.

Being the leading scorer in the playoffs for your team while doing this is actually incredibly impressive.

This. Nylander is what he is. A defensively flawed gamebreaking talent that is the complete offensive package. He's not a punishing forechecker, but can play the cycle game, engage in and win shoulder to shoulder battles, and retain the puck going into and out of space.

If we're going heavy/workmanlike- his game can succeed with/in spite of that playstyle.

Of the five, Nylander is probably the one who is most defendable.

But seriously, do we have to? How do we put lipstick on a pig of zero points in the last four games? How do we dress up that the only reason for excusing the dogshit is that the other guys were more dogshit? It's irrelevant how bad the others were!

Willy would accept a trade out of town if we blew it up. He did his best and he never spat on the fans or his teammates. I'd clap for his tribute video. But the real benefit of trading him is that moving on from him would be 5 out of 5 gone. A completely clean slate. None of the stench lingering. Nobody on the bench in game 6 and 7 next year looking down the line at our "stars" and wondering if they came to play tonight.
