William Nylander

He's done some good stuff this series. Despite some blunders here and there, I think he's been fairly decent overall. CB needs to give him Bobby Mac and JT if he expects him to produce. No knock against Holmes, but he's not of WN's wavelength as far as the offensive part of the game is concerned. Maybe CB sees something most of us are missing, but I feel he needs to get Willy on a line with more offensively dynamic players. TBF, if they take care if this series tonight, then who am I to argue with success,

Holmberg is a good possession player and can play a decent defensive game but he belongs no where near the top 6 imo. I think they should go back to McMann with Tavares and Nylander, or if they are insistent on using Pacioretty-Domi-McMann together then maybe try Laughton with Tavares and Nylander instead and use Holmberg as a 4c which plays to more of his strengths imo.

couple of nice assists but the lack of intensity is.. something.
The quintessential Nylander experience tonight.

Some outstanding plays, while his general play felt very underwhelming.

Did think he grew better as the game wore on, but there were a fair number of shifts in the opening 40 that felt way too casual for this time of year.

Swap holmberg with Robertson.

Holmberg and jarnkrok are basically the same and you don’t need 2 of them.

Not a good series from Nylander so far. Just hasn’t taken charge like he did last year vs Boston.

I think he's been fine. He has six points in the four games. Many of the assists are primary.

He was getting involved physically more earlier on. Hopefully he gets back to that. He's not a guy who excels in his own zone (which is true of many scoring wingers) and the Leafs have had to spend a lot of time there in this series.

Really?

I have found he has been more engaged in every way this year.

He doesn't seem to have his gamebreaking speed and I don't want to speculate as to why but I have seen him make a few huge hits, block a lot of shots and he has 6 points in 4 games.

Pretty much everyone's been fine. Too much picking away at this and that, pointless scoring pace calculations based on 4 games and so on.

All that matters is that we're up 3-1. We haven't played our A game yet but our B game has been good enough so far, hopefully we finish it up Tuesday and then get ready for the next series. That's when we really begin to find out what this team is, and hopefully that's when we show our A game. GLG!!

Still not enough lol………..meanwhile marners not engaged physically has one more point made defensive mistakes that lead to goals but Hes our mvp amazing this site sometimes

Wait, why are there 2 nylander threads rn.

Anyways, Nylander has been very good, but not great, and I have sky high expectations of the man. I think he's our best player with Matthews injured. I sneakily think Nylander could straight up be our best player with more and more Matthews limitations being revealed.

His play has been janky. I'd like him to lock in more. Yes, he's solo generating two goals that literally required a person to be awake to score, but we need more from him and he's more than capable of doing it.

I want more speed, more zone entries, more play domination from him. The passing is great, I need puck domination from him. McMann over Holmberg will help a lot.

Because he's been twice as good as anyone else? :sarcasm:

The other thread was from last year and somehow got bumped.

Haven’t really liked his series that much outside of Game 1.

Which is fair.

Out of curiousity, what have you not liked?

Seemed like was bobbling the puck a lot on outlet passes in Game 2 and 3. Has been more physical on the forecheck but hasn’t shown the same take charge offense as he did vs Boston. Part of the problem on the 4 minute PP in OT. That’s a collective effort even if Matthews, Marner and Rielly looked visibly worse and lackaidasical. He’s got another gear than this and a take charge attitude. He’s gotta look more commanding than Tim Stutzle come on.

I don't think he has been as explosive as he normally can be. I don't know if he has a nagging injury, if Berube has told him to dial it down, but the fact that he is attempting to play more physical and is willing to block shots and try to play a liitle d makes it pretty clear he is doing whatever he can to help the team win.

Contrary to what a lot of people are saying I actually appreciated Nylander working his ass off all game even though he took a few reckless penalties. It can send a good message to the team about compete level. He looked super dangerous every time he touched the puck in the o zone and was finding some nice lanes for his passes.

He knows he can't take those dumb penalties, had a bad pinch at the blue line, maybe a few other misplays, but otherwise he looked good

Ah. You said "a few reckless penalties", and I just pointed out that it was only one.
I did not say that..
Actually, you did.

A bit of miscommunication - all's good.
