That Marner and Nylander are different types of players was my point.

Over the previous 10 games Nylander was still generating chances for himself and whichever linemates he had, but they just weren't going in. For example, over those 10 games he led the team in shots and JT, his usual centre, was third.

Previous 10 amount foward, only Reaves who had worst SCF/SCA % and Leafs gave up 31 more scoring chance than what they had when Nylander was on the ice at 5v5 ( Marner was 1st at 36 over opponent). Tavares who had been #1 Nylander teammate during this 10 game stretche is a/ +2 ( same as Matthews)

Only Dewar and pacioretty who had worst expecting goal % than Nylander( knies is #1)

The difference was not the scoring didn't goes in, his entire game was worst

So your argument Is based on a very small sample size of +/- and something as vague as scoring chances?

I talked about previous 10 and only about previous 10, so for sure its a pretty small sample... Its a sample of 10 games...

With Nylander on the ice previous ten.
Leafs scored 5 and allowrd 7. expected goal was like 7 GF and 9 against so doesn't change that much.

Scoring chance 61 for 92 against 151 % more scoring chance allowed

HDCF 28 for 43 HDCA 154 % more scoring allowed

Sorry you can dont give any value for scoring chance/ HDCF but it you're giving up 150+ % than what you created as a team, you will lost for sure because no goalie /D in the world who will overcome this game after game.

PS Scoring chance still have more value than number of shot who just can be weak shot from distance...

Is Nylander alone on the ice in the D Zone?

I get he’s a little lax defensively, but this stat is garbage when looking at someone who gets paid to score goals, which he does.

Nylander was in a flunk, but you could see progress was being made.

Have to look at season production, not pick a sliver and say that's who he is.
You can look at a sliver and evaluate that sliver. Example one of their core players has scored 1 goal in the last 10, so that paces out to what 8 goals?

Leafs have yet to build a strong line with Nylander on it. It has been beaten to death, but so much money into 4 forwards limits the ability to build ideal lines. Sometimes you just have to make due with incompatible players, where their elite skills do not match. Some players have easier paths to production, and that makes sense when there are are so few options, and you can give a player who can score on his own the leftovers.

Season:
Nylander is -3, but the Selke level Matthews is 0.

At 11,5M, sorry but no you're not there to just score but to make your team better and make you're team win. He's not the 7M player anymore...

And no Nylander is not alone in D but...Only rielly who had been close of him ( not a pretty good exemple of defensive side)... So pretty hard to put all the blame on every one else than Nylander.

Tonight will be a good test for his game. Florida is his kryptonite. He is career -12 against TB with only Panthers being worse (the heat?).

Love him with McMann. Just need a centre that can also keep up. Form a speedy rush line. Give Tavares a couple of worker bees for more of a grind-cycle type line.

I thought that line was decent tonight. So far, Willy is the only one who can make sense out of Holmberg. McMann had some looks, too.

Nylander is the most gifted Leaf, most frustrating Leaf as well. When he goes 100% percent and is back checking, hounding pucks, Id argue he is as good/dangerous as Matthews. He is better than Marner when both are competing at 100 percent. The big edge is Nylander's puck protection, cut backs, strong on the puck and his shot are clearly areas he is better than Marner at.

The ongoing either/or with Willy and Mitch is kinda funny from everyone, and also hella unnecesaary... We can all just hate em and love em equally, but in the end - they are both Top 10 Leafs All -Time when it's all said and done.

I thought Willie was the best player tonight.

He was flying and pretty much the best player when he is on the Ice.
