Hockey is hard game to play when you try to avoid contact,it complicates your trajectory, on the fortunate side the game is more excepting of Nylanders game, but not that much.

Tavares is having a great year compared to his previous years but I fear his game dips in the playoffs and we will eventually need a strong #2C going forward. Bennett would fit the bill for the coach. Not so much for Leafs management.

So you would be thinking a next year deal for a C. I have a few concerns about Bennett. There is no guarantee he would thrive in Toronto and his track record so far is as a 50pt guy which is not really 2nd line production on most teams. Add to that he has a Cup with the club that gave him as real chance and the better tax rate down there and I think he could be a substantial overpay for any other team he were to move to. I have no deep knowledge on the Panthers plans but from what I have read it seems possible they might be cutting ties with Ekblad instead. And does Sam want to go back to the GM who gave up on him?

Don't get me wrong, SB would make the team better for the right price but they have to be going after players like him and Reinhart before they have broken out.. I think for a center they will have to trade assets and the time to do that is now to support their shrinking window.

Nylander is a 2025 updated version of Phil Kessel. When hes hot, hes extremely hot, flying on the ice, everything he touched becoming gold and can producing at high rate whatever with who they are playing... but even his line producing at high rate, his game doesn't make his teammate better, they are just converting at higher rate. But when he's cold like its actually the case, hes pretty bsd like it was the case with Kessel. The main difference was Kessel was alone in his time with Toronto and needed to be the offensive leader vs Nylander who actually the 3rd wheel of leafs so leafs winning and people didn't care about it.

Kessel also lost the Conn Smythe by a hair to the best hockey player in the world at the time

I'd take a Kessel level performance in the playoffs over what Nylander, Matthews and Marner have given us so far.

Buying tickets (especially off resellers) isn't like buying tickets to a TFC game. I spent 1k for lower bowl seats a couple of years ago to take my kid to his first game. Drinks and food prices were crazy as well. They lost that game. To pay 1k to watch my team lose and have the players openly comment "who cares?" is ridiculous. Like maybe the people who are literally paying thousands to watch you play care. Maybe the same people who watch all the games care. Lost a lot of faith in our group after hearing that

Willy ain't a leader, Matthews ain't a leader, Marner ain't a leader. We don't have a leader. None of these guys are leaders of men. I haven't seen an ability to lead.
