Just like the “core 4” in the playoffs, maybe he thinks they’re there already ^^Willy is now under a point per game, getting paid $11.5 million a year. Atrocious.
He’s paid 11,5(?) million dollar per year. He should be able to figure things out anyway. Just look at Marner and Matthews, they keep scoring great goals and assists, while also being defensive stalwartsIts is the time of the year to not play with Tavares anymore. Bump up or down, but with the same icetime.
What have they done to get Nylander going? Nothing and then nothing with some nothing on the side.
I would bring up Alex, put them with Marner as altering C with Nylander. Domi with Matthews and knies.
The suckometer will not move if it does not work, so still worth the gamble. But as always, minimum 10 games or it never happened.
Matthews has played 40 games without Marner, Marner has played 69 games without Matthews. They have played 551 games together. Nylander has not played with such good players or got payed the same % of the cap in nearly the same lenght of time. He get the leftovers most of the time. He’s paid 11,5(?) million dollar per year. Luckily we get to enjoy this floater until 2036.
Super frustrating player and always has been. No idea why he was the darling for so long.
Totally, one would wish that he becomes better, but I won’t have my hopes up. Atleast we have MarnerLuckily we get to enjoy this floater until 2036.

Right??? Who cares when the regular season is 82 games, vs maximum 7 in playoffsBecause of his dominate post seasons!!!!
He's got lots of time to figure it out. Imagine perferring this guy over the one who shows up most nights but can't speak to the media to save his life? crazy stuffLuckily we get to enjoy this floater until 2036.

when has marner ever showed up? Like seriously when if your free we can discuss it cause he shrinks in big moments this is the guy who told reporters he wasnt ready at pucc drop of a playoff gameHe's got lots of time to figure it out. I mean, you could always prefer neither... (For the record they are both phenomenal players, just too expensive). He's got lots of time to figure it out. Imagine perferring this guy over the one who shows up most nights but can't speak to the media to save his life? crazy stuff
They play 82 games a year, watch closer.when has marner ever showed up? Like seriously when if your free we can discuss it cause he shrinks in big moments this is the guy who told reporters he wasnt ready at pucc drop of a playoff game
you still gonna be a fan when he leaves ?They play 82 games a year, watch closer.
people point different pivotal moments that doomed the Leafs rebuild, the Marner or JT contract or the Muzzin injury or the Mrazek deal or the Foligno trade but for my money trading out of a chance to take Konecny was the biggest blunderMinten + Domi + 2nd for Koneckny. Willie gets his C and Tavares moves to #3C.
TK is a winger so perhaps Laughton or Frost but neither packs any offense. I would have question the value of making a deal to push Tavares down to the 3rd line this season. His pp60 is second on the team right now. Putting another C above him will reduce his minutes and there are 10 other forwards who are doing less with their ice time.Minten + Domi + 2nd for Koneckny. Tavares is having a great year compared to his previous years but I fear his game dips in the playoffs and we will eventually need a strong #2C going forward. Bennett would fit the bill for the coach. Not so much for Leafs management.TK is a winger so perhaps Laughton or Frost but neither packs any offense. Also the idea that Willie needs a new center to help him produce seems like an excuse for an off year. He had 87 points two years ago playing a minute less a night and was a beast at even strength with Tavares as his center.
Paycheck aside, the last two seasons weren't mirages. Unless he is playing through something he will get back to his real game. He is getting similar usage to last year and the same OZ starts.
However some notable stats. GvA way up and TkA way down from last year and you have to go back to 20-21 for a year that bad. The other thing is his hits are way down. It isn't a big part of his game but the drop is so obvious its relevant. If not for Berube's comments about Willie's confidence right now I would have said he might be hurt. I agree with moving him to Matthews to get a spark. It costs nothing because they aren't winning right now and Willies numbers beside Matthews have always been pretty good.
