He's done a great job elevating his play over the years in this tough market, especially after his hold out.

For as much as he frustrates some, he's an ideal player for Toronto because he just does not seem to get phased at all by the pressure from the fans. He just goes out there and does his thing, and performs well in the playoffs.

I think he's taken over the role as the 3rd wheel on this team which is a good thing. After this season the cap hits will finally be in line with the quality of player.
He was our third best player for many years in case you didn't notice, then last year he moved up a notch.

That's regular season, playoffs he moved past Marner a while ago. Or maybe more accurate to say that Marner's slipped behind him, whichever you prefer.

This is pretty incredible considering most guys on this list have elite linemates, whereas Willie's often doing it with random guys and duct tape.

g/60 are 5v5 goals only.

On Leafs he is 2nd. to Matthews.
League wide Matthews is 49th. over those 5 years.
Leafs don't score well in the playoffs.

That Nylander has produced more than M&M is absolutely mind blowing. I'll say it again - Keefe's biggest mistake was not sending Nylander out there more often when we badly needed to score in the playoffs.

So Nylander has produced more points 5on5 than Marner. I would not have guessed that, absolutely amazing! Imagine what he could do if he was stapled to an elite point producer the way M&M are!

No, points per 60, 5v5.

He just hasn't got the same playing time until most recently.

Perhaps the bigger question, who has he been playing with, besides Tavares, who is more than .5 points less per 60?

And this is just 5 years, and he has been improving year by year.

Right, I meant to type that but my keyboard is giving me so much grief. A new keyboard arrives tomorrow, hopefully then I will post better. :)

Obviously my opinion but pretty much universally accepted but you would certainly be welcomed into the minority though.
Here’s to hoping he shows up this playoffs looks good so far but he’s always looked good with time and space

I think the 3 core forwards in the line-up have looked so much better the past several games.

Supported by Knies and McMann, they've done well.

Looked like a much more cohesive team, all pulling together for the team.

Also hope we Don’t take the foot off the gas when the captain gets bacc with everyone playing the way they’re right now adding him would make us a very dangerous team keep the current first line together

Nah, third wheel is a pretty stupid thing to say. It's Matthews' team, then Nylander and Marner are both critical components. Both are routinely out in critical late game situations, and they have different strengths and weaknesses as players. It's also reflected in the records without them as a team, and probably why the Leafs still do so well with Matthews out, as Nylander and Marner collectively take over, whereas when Marner/Nylander have been injured the team is closer to .500.
