Leafs Home Board
Lou Lam speaks out

The biggest question is who will make up the 23-man roster by the time training camp ends. The Leafs, of course, will have the likes of prospects Mitch Marner, William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen in camp fighting for spots.

The team has promised a patient approach with their youngsters and it didn’t sound as if Lamoriello was going to vary from that plan.

“You are always going to play the best players,†said Lamoriello. “But I’ve always said a young player really tells you when he’s ready. You don’t really tell him. He has to have something special.

If not, you’re doing an injustice, not only to him but to the organization. Only time will tell. You never say never to anything. In my opinion, it’s very difficult for a young player today, as an 18-year-old, to make the team".

Nylander doesn't need to develop into the kind of player who wins corner battles to be star. Not saying he won't ever be that kind of player but if he's not, it's not the end of the world. Mike Bossy was one of the best players ever and he was never known for physical play and he didn't need to, that's why they had Clark Gillies on his line.

Is that offensive though?

Its not exactly a respectful way of saying it and add in the bone and a 70+ lou lam who has issues with facial hair being unprofessional and you have a perfect storm. And to be fair willie will become an idol to little kids so he should become pg rated and all that.

These are the same kids who probably watch television shows involving violence. One would think that a "snizzbone" would be far less offensive than violence in PG-era WWE.

He's got all the tools, hes overflowing with talent.

But the sooner he realizes he can't float in this league the better. It's the first league hasn't been better than everyone else. In the A he can float around poke pucks turn up ice and bury. Not in the big boy league.

Needs to find that compete level to get down in the corners and play without the puck

Not sure if anyone brought this up when Nylander played his 10th game, but I remember there being a lot of hulabaloo about why the Leafs would let him burn a contract year and people arguing both sides of it. To put it simply, they did it so that he can't receive an offer-sheet when he becomes RFA. By letting him become RFA after 2 "season", he won't have enough NHL time to receive an offer-sheet, which greatly helps our bargaining position. So either he'll sign a long-term deal that's fair for both sides, or he'll sign a shorter term deal that has a low cap hit.

Again, if this has already been discussed, cool, ignore this post. I just noticed this though and figured I'd post it in case nobody else talked about it.

Thanks. I don't recall reading this anywhere before, so you have educated me.
This seem like the new shrewd leafs MO.

He's 19......

He's going to be fine. He just needs to work on the subtle things like not telegraphing passes by looking at the person he's passing to the entire time. I'm citing that 2 on 1 he had with Parenteau last night.

He was looking the whole time, and despite it being a great pass, a top notch goalie like Luongo was probably reading his eyes on the play.

He's going to be fine. He's only 19 right now, and he's at least 2 years ahead of Kadri in development.

Are people worried?

Nylander could easily have had 12-13 points on the year without even being really effective. I'm working on a theory that Brown stole all his puck luck.

Snizz refers to female genitalia.

In what world? "Snizz" in this generation refers to sniping. Snizzbone would just be another way to say sniping.

I think it more has to do with protecting Nylander saying something publically that he would regret and saves him from reading negative comments about himself every day
