There are several reasons why Vegas might move on from Karlsson:
  • center depth of Eichel, Hertl, Howden, Roy
  • 32 years old, missed some time due to injuries
  • they have moved from older declining players previously- Marchessault
  • 5.9M for next 2 years can be allocated to strenghten their wings
  • after next season, Eichel and Dorofeyev will require extensions
  • so many teams are looking for potential 2C and he might be a short-term solution
  • he has 10 teams no trade list clause
What do you think would be his value?

He’s declined quite significantly this season in terms of production, so I’d be somewhat wary, but his production is still decent for a 2C and he’s an excellent faceoff man. Nice cap hit too - not quite the bargain it once was, but still good value. 2 years left.

From the Habs, I’m not sure I’d give quite as much as I would for say, Zacha. Their production is similar, and WK is better at faceoffs, but he’s is significantly older, and has much less term. And like I said, the declining trajectory is a concern. I’d offer:

•Logan Mailloux
•2nd round pick ‘25 (PIT)

Wouldn’t be comfortable offering any more than that with his age, declining trajectory, and term.

We would be foolish to move him, unless the overpay is just un-saynoable.

Production, I have no concerns with his production it's down on the last year, sure but there are a few factors at play. Injury both playing and non playing, also being saddled with the dead weight of Holtz and Schwindt for the parts of the season he did play, haven't helped. We just reunited him Smith and they a looking fantastic together. He is an extremely dependable two way center, solid on the PK. He is one the last player we should consider moving.

For me, he's about as untouchable as it gets.

Perhaps the Bruins go for him if it doesn't cost them much and its more of a cap dump for Vegas.
He'd need to fall of two or three cliffs before he moved into pure cap dump territory. He's worth every cent of his contract for what he does off the puck. What he does with it, is pure gravy.

I'd decline. Somewhat understand your reservations as an acquiring team, as a team that has him, i'm not looking to move him and the offer doesn't give me pause.

So the offer would need to start with 1st round pick probably.
