Will we be average for years to come? How about mediocre?

Man, looking back at this thread we didnt catch a single break. We havent caught in a break since the lockout happened when we had the best possible Sens roster in 2004-2005 and would have likely won the cup that year. Ugh.

We don't have our 1st.
We finished 2nd but didnt even get a top 2 pick. things would be completely different with a Dahlin or Svechnikov in the helm, with all due respect to Tkachuk.
We gonna lose the best player to ever play for us AT THE PEAK OF HIS CAREER.

I imagine the players are going to give 100% effort all the time and give their soul for that team after that...

Or not

Maybe more like 67%

What's the bet on the lowest attendance this season? I'll go with 8,000. Cold night in February, bad team in town.

Yeah, I think it'll be under 10,000 for sure.

I have tickets to a Tuesday night game in late January against Arizona, so I'll try to take a picture.

Never thought it would get to this but it all started in 2011. Funny how San Jose can just keep icing good teams year in and year out but after few seasons making it to the cup we had no other option. I know the argument is that our farm team had no depth but a good GM like Wilson shows how it can be done.

I unpleasantly place myself in Sens fans position.....i would want the number 1 pick overall for the next 3 maybe 4 years i.e Hughes Lafrinere and not sure for 2021 draft maybe reynolds or Raty...i think its the only way to go in order to become an impact contending team and of course departure of Melnyk

Youre right about SJ however being a bruins fan untill 2011 we were a team making playoffs going finals but winning nothing. Making playoffs year in and year out is not satisfying for me and most i suppose we want that cup
Dont want to go down as the other team that never quite got it.
To build a strong team you need excellent drafts and franchise players

It is very hard to win but you want to consistently make the playoffs.
This management team doesn't understand how to do a proper rebuild. They gave away a first rounder in a trade for Duchene and then 3 months later decided to go full rebuild. The trading of Turris screwed up our chemistry so bad hat we could never recover from it even though Duchene was clearly the better player.

Well we weren’t quite average but if you take away the month of November I’d say we were about average for years to come. This thread called it and sadly all these years later it is just as relevant.

After 10 years we still have an unproven coach and GM. We did make it to the ECF on a run of luck that happens 1 out of 100,000 times (toronto Raptors chip).

10 years later at best we they were a bubble playoff team and worst a bottom feeder. I guess the good news that the same could be said for multiple teams in the conference. Outside of Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Boston who had multiple playoff runs over the past decade?

And we had a 2 time Norris winner we could build around. The Sens have never produced an elite player that was recognized league wide as the best. As good as the Pizza line was none of them won any hardware.

I thought that, but a 2nd seems steep for him as a ufa rental. So i think more likely 3rd, maybe 4th.
He got traded 3 days later for a 3rd and an AHL player. Spot on (Ian Cole)
We need to spend more on staff if we're not gonna spend to the cap going forward. The only way you remain competitive while spending a lot less is by drafting and developing well so you have a bunch of good young cheap players before they become expensive. We also need to win most of our trades. We also can't afford to spend big money on average players.

Back in the Jacques Martin days we would never have had players like Ryan and Phaneuf making big money.

We would have guys like hossa or havlat sign for 2.6-4.5 million while letting the rangers pay 9 million for Bobby holik and we'd stay away. Now we're the ones paying the holiks of the world in Phaneuf and Ryan.

There was a time when the federovs commanded 10 million and we would stay well away. Why? Because we had enough talent coming through that we could sign for a couple million because they were RFAs. That's because our scouting and development was top notch.

Ufa age dropping from 30 to 27 makes it harder, but theres no reason we don't have the advantage until they're 27. Just keep drafting good young talent you keep cheap until they're too expensive to keep at 27. Let the other teams overpay for what they did in their early or mid 20s.

I feel like what I said is still relevant to an extent.

We still have a small off ice staff. Our scouting has been ass, and we're still paying big bucks for average players lol.

I didnt realize this thread was from 2013 when I first opened it...now I am really bummed

The good news is, since the start of that season, they've won 386 games!!

The bad news is, in the span, they've lost 503 games and they're a -314 goal differential.

I think we all would have taken average lol
