I want him gone. I thought he abandoned our Lotto Line too quickly. Statistically it was working for us... Each time Pettersson, Jt Miller and Boeser was on a line, they rack up tons of points. It got shut down for a couple games, a mere couple games, and hes never gone back to it, ever again, despite that line scoring as much goals for the Canucks as the Mcdavid Drai line for the Oilers. I will never forgive Tocchet for doing that. since then, Petey's stats dropped, Millers stats also dropped a little, and that was it. He never tried that again, not even in 2025 season. Screw Rick Tocchet.

i think he would have reaffirmed he is going to stay if he was going to stay. he doesnt seem like someone who wants to stay when theres so much smoke around him leaving and he hasnt said anything to calm down the fires

I dont want him gone. If I had to guess he wont be back.

The Canucks have been a circus for all but 1 season of our current managements tenure.

Other teams can offer stability, lower taxes, a more competetive team etc.

If Rutherford is to be believed--they expected to get a yay' or a 'nay' from Tocchet's camp last week.

Rumor is his reps have presented their contract demands to the Canucks. But if the deafening silence continues into next week or beyond--he's as good as gone.

I just can't see Aquilini offering the 60-year old Tocchet a five or six year deal at $5m a season. The owner just doesn't value coaches that highly, I'm afraid.

So next stop for Tocchet is probably Philly. Just another 'complication' in terms of keeping Hughes beyond the 2027 season.

JR made the public comment that Van made their best offer ever to a coach. Seems to me that’s preloading the fan base for Tocchet’s leaving to be Tocchet chasing the money. IMO JR knew Tocchet was leaving when he spoke at the presser. He doesn’t say what he did if he believed Tocchet would accept the offer.
So who’s our next HC? Malholtra? He’d be cheap.

Money talks. You can rest assured, if Tocchet doesn't get a $5m, six year deal to coach in Vancouver, he'll get it in Philly.

I wouldn't get too hung up about the Flyers current roster. Tocchet coached for a number of years in Phoenix--which featured one the cheapest and youngest rosters in the league. He's used to coaching teams with a lot of holes in their lineup.

The question that always gets asked, if he was leaving why hasn't he said so yet? It doesn't benefit him not to.

Because he might not be leaving if van signs up for his demands. He could be waiting on van to definitively say "no thanks, we will look elsewhere". Maybe management want him back and are still working on convincing Aquadolt.

Ok but Rutherford said they made a massive offer. Biggest in Vancouver coaching history or something to that effect. Seems like it's not going any higher.

I will crack open a beer when it's announced that he's leaving and the Canucks hire someone with an actual plan to suceed in all 200 feet of the ice. Being liked by the players should not be the barometer for whether a coach stays or goes. Scotty Bowman and Bruce Cassidy were hated by their players.

Rumor is he wast 5x$5M, and wants to reset the market for coaching contracts ... can't see Aquilini doing that. Probably gone.

Tocchet born in the GTA and is fully Americanized. He only took this job to begin with to relaunch his coaching career. He'd like nothing more than to be in New York or Philly to wank with all of his friends. I also think the Canadian style hockey media was getting on his nerves.

NY or Philly won't be short of money to pay him as well.

Its really wild that the USA style hockey media even exists. They basically work for the respective team they are covering as a PR department.

Rangers, Flyers, and Penguins all have vacancies. Either the highest profile coaching gig in the league or returning to one of his legacy teams.

Considering that the Canucks aren’t even willing to pony up $200k for their top prospect (who likely would not reach those bonuses) I have a hard time believing they will ante up to pay Tocchet.

I equally doubt they will then go and spend that money on Mike Sullivan. The most likely option is that they promote Malholtra.

I'm good with him gone to be honest. Losing and being boring is brutal the team just doesn't show anything offensively with him. The shot totals we're sickening to see every game. We need a coach that cares about scoring as well and not someone who's just trying not to get scored on.

I’m cool with Mike Sullivan, very rare to get a coach that’s won back to to back Stanley cups. I think there’s only 15 coaches in history.
