Will there not be an "end of the season grades" thread?

- Bright spots were mainly kids/core players so that is reason for hope
- Free agents continue to be underwhelming
- Kids grew with increased responsibilities, showed signs of improvement throughout the year
- Goaltending was unspectacular but team defense as a whole was subpar again this season
- Didn't waste future picks/prospects/cap space on a quick fix at the deadline, which seems like the right call

I give Kane at least a B+

Larkin - B
Edvinsson - B+
Copp - B-
Compher - C-
Johansson - B
Rasmussen - D+
Tarasenko - C
Tarasenko over Compher and Chiarot? To me, he was a solid "D-." Arguably, the worst player on our team, after Holl.

Smith - D +
Was Smith really that bad?

Lyon - C-
Talbot - C
Talbot deserves at least a B-

Kane had a much better second half. He had a pretty dry stretch for a month and a half but so did a lot of guys. Maybe could have given him a bit better of a grade.. also he is the kind of proven winner/vet of the team so he has a high standard to reach. Larkin is the captain but I suspect Kane is pretty highly regarded and leaned on for leadership.

Tarasenko, Compher and Chiarot are all pretty meh... Tarasenko finished the season strong and I didn't think Chiarot had a horrible season, I like him for the most part. Chiarot just plays a more important role for now, its not his fault he is slotted above his talent but still.. he's playing 20+ a night so maybe I just have more PTSD watching a goal against and seeing Ben standing directly over the netminder.

Smith existed. I didn't really know much about him before he got traded to Detroit. He was as vanilla as Veleno was to me. Didn't seem to do anything on the ice but skate fast from point to point but still being a step behind the play every time.

Talbot was better than Lyon, he had a nice stretch to help keep the playoff hopes alive. Guess its hard for any goalie to look great with the lack of defense.

That's my reasoning behind my couch potato analysis and grading system.

Could you explain Tarasenko being a C? He was a solid D- to me?

I didn't put a ton of effort or thinking into any of the grades. Tarasenko was really bad for part of the season, really average for part, and had some good games although not nearly enough. He may bounce back having a more normal off season. He went from Stanley Cup champion to free agency to signing with Detroit to losing his father in the span of few weeks. I wasnt aware of that until a forum member mentioned it recently but that likely gave me a soft spot for him as a bounce back feel good story hopefully.

Agree with your assessment except for Berggren, who I would give a C. Although he often failed to take advantage of some the platooning on the upper lines, it must be difficult when your linesman are frequently changing. Flashes of skill, but inconsistent production.
