The NHL is the big time. The three or four top European "elite" leagues are merely minor leagues. None of those European minor leagues has the long, rich tradition of the National Hockey League. The NHL has nearly all of the best hockey players in the world playing for its 30 clubs.
I agree that the Canada Cup banner should be returned. It is a public relations ploy that is unnecessary. Canada is the birthplace of hockey, and it is only fitting of the sport's birth nation has a tournament with its name on it.
