Speculation: WILL THE Sens claim Kaliyev? Nope. Claimed by NYR

If only we'd picked him and Zadina the rebuild would have been complete....

idk, I think he's a potential stop gap until Amadio and Perron are back, depth is always good.
I don't think he's a depth option though.

His game is to be set up, and shoot. Triggerman on PP 2, half his goals are on the PP. That's about it. He can't fill in a depth role that either of those guys occupy, as their games are nearly backwards compared to each other.

I won't be upset if we grab him, it's a free wallet. But I'd expect the same kind of game you're getting from Wahlstrom, put on a 3rd line with 2nd PP and looking miscast in a role you can't provide positive value

I would prefer that they see what they have in Belleville in guys like Crookshank, Jenik, Halliday and dare I say it, Boucher, before taking on more reclamation projects.

makes sense. since there obviously no problem with Gaudette playing with Stutzle. When he prices himself out after his 30 goal season, Reinhardt will be ready to slot into the top 6.

gosh we're so lucky to have this kind of depth.

I forsee a "Rangers got a top line player for free, other teams are absolute morons" type thread appearing on the main boards a few games into his tenure, followed a few weeks later by fading into oblivion
Rangers have a brutal schedule there next 4 games, it lightens up a bit after that, so his first few games might actually be pretty rough.

averaging 15 goals per 82, that's better than Greig (1 year younger), Cousins (8 years older), Gregor (3 years older), and Amadio (5 yrs older)

It's actually pretty close to Pinto's 36 in 170 (8 months older)

He's a free depth piece with a bit of lingering potential at a time when we have two guys sitting on the shelf. .
Aren't those players much better in other ways?

Sure, maybe. but you only brought up goals and games played, and he is, to varying degrees, better in terms of that ratio than all those guys.

~15 goals a year isn't nothing, it's pretty good actually, particularly with bottom 6 icetime.

I don't think anyone has suggested he's super exciting as a player, just that he's a potential waiver pickup with some upside and we could potentially try him out and see if there's a fit.

Anyways, it's a moot point as the NYR have made the claim, we never had an opportunity, and that's fine too.

NYR give up on a better all around player who they drafted 2nd OA in Kakko to claim Kaliyev 33OA granted being better all around than Kaliyev isn't saying much

I can't believe winning games and having a chance at the playoffs might cost us a shot at getting Kalyiev for free.

I liked Staios at first, but that is terrible asset management.

I remember when people were laughing at some of us for that "asset management" thing... well, it was going to be our demise and the reason why we are handcuffed from any improvement right now.

That is some 5D chess by the Rangers, they know we covet him. Now we have to entertain their Tkachuk trade offers.

You're laughing but I'm pretty sure Bern will propose Kreider + Kaliyev for Tkachuk and say that maybe we should add Greig.
