Value of: Will the NHL ever begin dealing in futures as much as the NBA does?

Sure I can see an NHL GM happy to give up a 2031 1st, but not as good a look for the acquiring GM.

Also all the NBA unique reasons like being able to build through FA.

When an NBA player asks to leave, you have no other option but to move them. But, kind of crazy to think picks 5 years out are being dealt.

Can't see the NHL doing that. Calgary in a couple of deals had to wait like multiple drafts for their picks, one from FLA in the Tkachuk deal (who is now in year 3 with FLA) which should be going to MTL as part of the Monahan trade. The Hanafin deal they are waiting til 2026 draft to get their 1st from LV after dealing him before 2024 TDL.

In what way does trading future draft capital hurt the integrity of the league?
Because GM’s would stupidly trade away future 1st rounders and because they typically don’t have a long tenure in that position they’re likely to be gone by the time those picks are needed.

They pass the consequences down the line to someone else. It’s bad enough with these awful 8-year contracts to 30+ year old players. It’s bad for the league.
