Boston Globe Will the Bruins' ownership do anything about this mess?

Rask struggled in Game 4, but so did Crawford. He was fine in 2013.

B's would have been up 3-0 going into Game 4, if a young Torey Krug doesn't make one of the most horrific turnovers you'll ever see in Game 1 to let Chicago back into that game.
There were a lot of moments in game 1 that cost them, not least of which was a certain Dog Man in triple OT.

But you can't assume that games 2 and 3 unfold the way they did if the result of game 1 is flipped. The Hawks probably come out way more aggressively in game 2 at home, and if they're down in the series I don't think they scratch Hossa for his injury in game 3.

That said, one can make the argument that there's an alternate universe where it could've been a clean sweep if two absolute layups aren't botched in games 1 and 4 by Daugavins and Kelly respectively. And the thing about those two missed goals - both were beautifully set up by Tyler Seguin. Bruins win with those goals and Seguin is remembered as a big contributor, and we don't get this "half of Kane" bullshit on the way out the door.

It’s like walking all happy into your brother & his wife’s house with an 6 pack of Lowenbrau and an Alden Merrill cheesecake to watch the big game, and they just had a fight and aren’t talking

Just don't need to be arguing about Tuukka Rask period in the "Don Sweeney: should he be better at his job?" thread.

Look at Youtube. He was horrific in 10, games 4-7. He was outdueled by a better team and average goalie in 13 and beaten by a more competitive and sharper goalie in 19.
Binnington got pulled twice

Blues only team in NHL history to win a Cup where they lost by 4 or more goals twice at home in a Finals

Rask was not at fault on game 7

Marchand two massive blunders game 2 and 7 ironically on both second opposition goals

Really hard for me to look at 10, 13 and 19 and see a way to blame him for their losses.

2010 he's a rookie and because Thomas wasn't fully healthy, part of the reason for the epic collapse vs. Philly was Rask being ran into the ground. Started 16 of 22 coming out of the Olympic break, started all 13 playoff games.

I get he never won as a starter, but he list of starting goalies who got their team within 2 wins of a cup twice is very short. I don't know how you blame your starting goalie when you get within 2 wins of a championship unless you have some sort of historically powerful offensive team, which neither of those Bruins teams did. If anything, it was the fact that one line out of 4 just didn't carry their weight in either year (Line 3 in 2013, Line 2 in 2019) that cost the Bruins those cups.

2010 ended when Krejci broke his wrist.

2013 he had a .940 save % and 2019 a .934…..both well above average.

One can point to probably a couple dozen specific plays by skaters that were as impactful as anything Rask did toward preventing them from winning.

2013 playoffs vs. Crosby/Malkin/Letang in their prime.

4-0 sweep, .985 save % (134 of 136), 2 shutouts.

Regarding 2010, obviously that roster was so absolutely cooked to injury by the end of that series that they didn't even belong in the ice with Philly, so faulting Rask for the series is ridiculous. That said, I've always felt that the goal he gave up late in the first period of game 7 that put Philly on the board and gave them hope going into the first intermission was one of the weakest and most untimely softies I've ever seen. But again, Tuukka is not the guy to blame for the collapse.

Minimum going forward (imo of course, not what is necessarily likely to happen): acquire a high end top 6 F, either center or wing. Center preferable, but probably fewer option/opportunities and clean out the coaching staff at the NHL level except for Essensa. Just two things to start. There are probably other things they can and should do, but those two at the least would be a good beginning. I'd expect the team to be back in the playoff picture with that.

You can be overrated and still be in the HOF……

Guy Carbonneau prime example.
Yea and on panel 2 Saturdays ago that idiot was saying do you think Marchand is a HOF player? Guy Carbonneau not mentioned though.Glorified shot blocker. Most goals in a season he ever scored was 26 I believe. To lazy to look up those HOF stats :sarcasm:

I would rather tank another season then waste cap with deals they will regret later. They need to wait till that centre comes available.Want to spend on another top 6 winger fine, but don't just spend till it's gone.Saw that movie twice.
