Boston Globe Will the Bruins' ownership do anything about this mess?

It's really damning for Don Sweeney when his biggest supporter cites Pavel Zacha as a huge accomplishment.

Pavel Zacha is the opposite of a winning player.

And Hampus Lindholm's deal is already aging like a jack-o-lantern in April.
He said he never traded for a top six forward or a top pairing defenseman. Despite the gymnastics above, he has actually done exactly that.

Yeah the team the last two years was pretty shitty. SMH.

Passenger Zacha showed exactly who he is in both post-seasons.

But I know regular season success is enough for you, and honestly that's sort of fine. I'm not even being sarcastic. I wish I felt the way you do. But Pavel Zacha is a losing player and has been his entire time here.

I said Sweeney hasn’t found a partner for McAvoy, which is unequivocally true.

I stand corrected on Zacha. He’s a top 6 forward (who has as many postseason goals as former top 6 forward Karson Kuhlman)

Well he had one for a good while but no one here gave him any respect. Hamp plays with McAvoy in key situations and to close out games. So there’s some semantics at work here.

Lindholm & McAvoy would be a wicked awesome pairing. Looking forward to it next season

The average fan you are speaking about probably wouldn't even tune in to what Sweeney or Neely had to say.

I really don't think management is concerned about fan reactions. Nor should they be.
They have a massive weight list and it’s grown over the past year

@Ladyfan don’t give up your seats they would be gone in 2 seconds

For the "tear it down and rebuild" crowd, this is just more evidence that this market can't handle a true rebuild. We sold off our players at the TDL and after 2 games of being out played (as they should based on the talent) fans are losing it.

If you called for them to be sellers, this is what you asked for. Don't start crying now and being pissed because the team is icing 4th liners on the 2nd line. Enjoy the last 14 games of the season and lets see who may have a future on this team.

Must say I was surprised at the speed with which we've started to hear some pretty loud boos and general displeasure. Bruins fans, and I'm generalizing here, are a little bit of an odd bunch. Will quite happily shrug off multiple playoff disappointments and lack of true success, but if the team is genuinely uncompetitive for even 5 minutes then people start losing their minds.

But of course the two are linked, twice over. If the franchise won more Cups, then down times probably become more palatable. And if management will not rebuild because ownership are afraid of the consequences, it really limits their ability to construct a truly competitive team. Which is not to say now is the time to rebuild, just that if it's never on the table except in direst need, then you're limiting your options and your potential pathways to success become pretty narrow. So perhaps the reaction of the fanbase can be counter-productive.

Regardless, we're on the beginnings of the re-tool path here, so can only let it play out now and see what happens. If the paying fan doesn't like it, then, well, stop paying. Not much else to be said.

This team hasn't drafted in the top 10 in about what...15 years?
I think overall this management team has over-achieved in terms of the product on the ice without a full-scale superstar/top 2-3 overall pick to work with. Now, that doesn't mean other teams haven't done better, but I think they are above average for the roster they have to work with.

With that said, I'm ready for a rebuild. Not a slash-and-burn style rebuild like Buffalo went through a decade ago, but if it means almost committing to no playoffs for the next 2 seasons after this one, so be it. I don't ever see the core of this team, with the assets they have, getting back to being a top 5 cup contender in its current form.

Its bad that Pastrnak is right in the prime of his career this moment, and McAvoy is entering his. A 2 year rebuild kinda wastes those year, but that is why you do a rebuild, not a full-on teardown.

As a fan, I just would rather have it be obvious the team is taking a step or two back in an effort to take 2-3 steps forward eventually....rather than sit through the long period of purgatory they seem to be entering now. I can deal with some losses, maybe a couple years of losses, if I have something bright and rising on the horizon to look forward to.

One cup in 52 years, and that was won on the back of the goaltender.

What does this have to do with anything? They had Patrice Bergeron, one of the best all around players of his genration. They had Hall of Famers in net followed by Vezina-quality minders. They had a Hall of Fame winger who played with Bergeron for over a decade. They had top-end talent coming out of their ass for a lot of those years.

What they also had were huge holes this fanbase was desperate for the GM to fill.

What does it have to do with anything? Most teams do NOT do well unless they have one, or a few of those high end picks. Bergeron was a great player, but he wasn't oozing with pure physical talent. The previous coaches and front office, up to the current ones, have done a good job with supplementing that talent and keeping it here, where most other teams that rise to the top of the standings do so with high end physical/draft talent. I'm sorry that either you don't understand that or just you want to attack my post because it doesn't suit your narative.

Oh come on, Karson Kuhlman on the wing, game 7 2019 definitely filled that hole on #46's wing lololol. All jokes aside, spot on take right here.

Oh poor Don Sweeney, he only had Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, and Tuukka Rask to build around. Oh the horror!

They also had a 2C in Krejci who led the league in playoff scoring in two different postseasons.

Might want to make sure that guy has solid wingers if you make it to a game 7
