Will the 4 Nations tournament have any sway in terms of HOF candidacy?

Easily the highest level of hockey played anywhere since the 87 canada cup. People like seeing teams like germany, latvia etc getting smoked. These were 4 of the 5 best teams in the world going best on best.

It is the same reason the euro cup (more so when it was only 16 teams) is a much higher quality of competition than the World cup. Every team in the euro cup are strong and can do some damage.

Repeat this louder for ESPN and similar outlets trying to make a point about All-Star Games! It was a soft re-opening of best-on-best international hockey after a 9 year hiatus, no more, no less.

It can be a nice addition to your legacy alongside other major awards or of course cups.

It's like icing on the cake, especially if the player has additional international success too such as the Olympics or World Championship.

One can simply rename it to "Nations Tournament" or "Hockey Nations Tournament" leaving out "4". Would make sense to add Czech Republic into equation. Quick googling shows they have 40 active players in NHL, wonder why they haven't ben invited.
 
Nope. It was an all star game tournament where the players decided to compete hard.

It had been 9 years since the last World Cup and 11 years since the last true best on best tournament so they wanted to satisfy the players and fans demand for some sort of international tournament. McDavid for example was open about his disdain for the lack of high stakes international hockey. So between agreeing to go back to the Olympics and deciding to do a new international calendar with that and the World Cup, they put this together just to calm everyone down and give them something.

They've been vocal about their plan to have the ASG at UBS Arena next year and then have all the players (who were chosen for the game) depart for the Olympics from there. They're only cancelling the ASG in years where they are going to have a proper World Cup (28, 32, 34 etc).
 
No but only because no borderline guys had a particularly good or bad tournament. McDavid/MacKinnon/Crosby don't need any help. Binnington doesn't have a real shot anyways, Marner's case will always be about points accumulation, a tough 3 game stretch doesn't outweigh Fox's Norris.

Maybe if Marchand is the MVP and scores the OT winner it pushes him from "probable" to "lock"? I just don't see any other guy where the relatively small boost would make a difference to their case at all.

Not a huge amount of sway, but I do think it generated or reinforced some narratives that will play into legacies.

- Binnington’s gold medal game was huge, and helped vindicate him as a Vernon-esque goalie who comes up big in the clutch even if he’s generally unreliable. Vernon just made the HOF with a resume that’s not all that much better.

- McDavid and Matthews have nothing to worry about with the HHOF, but their performances were definitely legacy-relevant.

- We’ll see what happens with the Tkachuks, but they added a chapter and drew a lot of attention to their leadership qualities. In Brady’s case I think it was a strong net positive, in Matthew’s case it seems to be more of a mixed bag of praise and criticism. In any case, this stuff might very well come up when they’re eligible.

- I doubt Slavin makes the Hall, but at least a sliver of possibility was introduced given how many eyes he opened. Lots of people now understand that he should be getting way more Norris votes. Some of that may translate into actual votes, which if they lead to a finalist season or two would help him a lot.

- Not so long ago, Pettersson seemed on track to build a dark horse argument for the Hall, but his past year or two has really dampened that possibility. A big tournament could have helped reset that narrative, but instead his performance just deepened the criticism.
