So the hockey powerhouse, that could beat any country on a regular basis with their B, C and D team as many Canadians on here say, can't ice a competitive team for the WCs on a regular basis?

We beat the last champions - Sweden - 3:0 and then lost to them after SO in the QF.

Ppl love this topic so much! It has been debated so many times...and yet it still keeps popping up OK, so - Europeans give a damn because of the tradition it has. North Americans do not give a damn because the players are (from their perspective) of inferior quality (either not from the NHL or NHLers from garbage teams that didnt make the play-offs). Outcome? Europeans will continue to care abt the WHC and North Americans wont. End of story

That is a great logic. Why do we care about NHL regular season, if best of the best plays in Play-offs?

Each team plays its best players in the NHL. It's fully competitive. Nobody turns down an offer to play in the NHL, unless they're stupid (Kovalchuk).
