Will NA public and experts complain again, when a KHLer wins Calder in 2026?

So going by your logic....shouldn't players who have played in the AHL be excluded since they're NA professionals- and likely a much better league than the KHL?
if they are like 22+ I'd be fine with that. I'd have been fine changing the age rules after Panarin won. Your hypothetical almost never happens due to how NHL teams develop players, but I can see a potential future where like a great older undrafted/late round NCAA player emerges, and stays in school a long time cuase they are getting an NIL deal that keeps them there over trying to crack the NHL on an ELC.

They could be comparable and not eligible.

You might want to get some sandpaper to start shaving down that giant chip on your shoulder.

I'm pretty sure the complaints will be about the fact that all the world's best hockey players will be playing in North America as per usual.
"Show me the money!"

This is why Europen soccer leagues fear N.A. If soccer catches on here to a significant degree, their domestic leagues become farm leagues

It looks like the main contenders for the award are Nikishin, Shabanov and Demidov. So pretty possible that we will again hear complaints about KHL stars beating poor NA kids in the competition for the Calder.
Man the season hasn't even started yet and you are asking this loaded leading question for what purpose?

Give it a break.

So...I'm not as diehard as some of you sonInhad to look up Shabanov.....

Is he even being considered as a legit ROY candidate having never been drafted and only 5'8" and.....well....you know...rushin' to the NHL?

The Calder becomes completely irrelevant after the year in which it is won, so I do not think it's that big of a deal.

When the ~22-23 year old is in the KHL people say the KHL sucks and who knows if he'll be any good in the NHL. Then when they do well in NHL, people whine that they are coming in as grizzled veterans. Suddenly then the KHL is not so bad.

The only times it's been relevant in recent years were Panarin and Kaprizov, who both proved they were great players generally and not just old guys eeking out slightly better seasons than children.

About a third of the Calder winners are HOFers. It's a pretty good indicator of future success, but obviously not a guarantee. It's wild that every winner from 1987 to 1996 ended up in the Hall.

I expect a healthy debate over the Calder candidates next season, but not because of KHL experience. It could be quite a season for rookies since several are high-profile KHLers. Looking forward to seeing all of them play,,

It will also be fun to see the sophomore efforts of this past season's rookie phenoms. Really enjoying the youth movement going on in the NHL.

Imagine if the draft age was 20.

Lol really? Nobody cared when Panarin won it over McDavid? Nobody cared when Kaprizov won it? You should probably check HF back to those seasons...
You can easily search (insert name) + Calder and threads pop up from the main boards. One insecure Oiler fan is complaining it should have been McDavid but not due to the age but due to the fact that he was “on pace” to out produce Panarin. You’re more than welcome to check yourself. It’s free you know to do your own research.

The age thing was certainly a talking point.

They changed it back in the day when Makarov won it at age 31, if they want to lower the age again, they can, it's not a big deal. If they don't lower it, then the KHL guys should be eligible just the same as any guy with a lot of AHL time prior to entering the League. Obviously there are logistic factors (transfer agreement, burning eligibility with callups) that mean it is less likely but they don't need to make a whole separate rule just for players coming from the KHL to not win the Calder. Otherwise, just make the age whatever it is.
