This doesn't even make sense. Did Matthews win the Cup in his first game? Why does the game with more goals than his first NHL game have to involve winning the Cup?
If he nets a hat trick in the SC finals, that 10000000% trumps scoring 4 goals in the regular season.

Winning cups >>>>> Winning regular season games.

So was 2 goals in 3 mins against Tampa in Tampa in the playoffs with the team down 4-1 with 5 mins left to take a 3-1 series lead bigger or smaller than 4 goals in October?

Clearly 3 goals in the SC Finals will be bigger. So would 1 goal in the playoffs than 4 goals in a regular season loss.

I'd say the 3 point game against Boston in the playoffs last year where he had a point on every goal in Boston to tie the series is bigger than 4 regular seasons goals too. If that's the threshold, he's had lots of games bigger than that.

Actually sorry there’s 7.

Fedorov on Dec 26,1996 vs WSH
Gaborik on Dec 20,2007 vs NYR
Franzen on Feb 2, 2011 vs OTT
Laine on Nov 24,2018 vs STL
Zibanejad on Mar 5, 2020 vs WSH
Meier on Jan 17, 2022 vs LAK
Thompson on Dec 7, 2022 vs CBJ
Franzen is such a wonderfully random name in there.

He didn't win a cup, so I'll still take the 4 goal NHL debut.

The rationale makes no sense.

So basically 4 goals is better than everything but a Cup? If that's the definition than Matthews rookie game was better than McDavid's career.

Well actually I was talking about Matthew's scoring a hat trick in the Stanley Cup finals to beat his career debut game and then you just went off topic and started talking to me about all this stuff I don't care about

I have a good idea. Why not go talk to someone else. Have a great day man!

I'm asking for your rationale and you're saying I don't want to talk about it. You should have private messaged the poster if you wanted to keep your opinion private.

No one asked the question about what's bigger 3 goals to win a Cup or 4 goals in October - but that's the question you've decided needs to be answered. If that's the way you interpret the question, I agree with you. 3 games or 1 goal to win the Stanley Cup is bigger than 4 goals in a regular season game - but that wasn't the question being asked.

He will score a natural hat trick and follow it up with one more goal which will be the Cup winner and cement his Conn Smythe win, probably this playoffs.

Great player. Defensively so good but that gets overlooked because he’s the best goal scorer.
