Will Kessel's 30 goal season streak come to an end?

No. 40 goals in 82 games gets you to roughly 23 in 48.

30 goals in 48 games is a 51 goal pace over a full 82 game season.

I think that the 30 goal club won't extend beyond Stamkos, Malkin, and a healthy Crosby. Maybe OV.

52 goal pace, you can't round down goals :sarcasm:

I think it will stop. I'm guessing he gets between 20-25. Would be very impressed if he hits 25. 30 would probably win him the Rocket Richard.

Kessel had 26 goals in the first 48 games last season. He has a chance.

I think it'll take him 5-10 games to get warmed up. He hasn't been playing any hockey I don't think.

I'd imagine guys like Stamkos would likely peak at 30, so no.

That said, most players usually have better numbers in the first half and trail off near the end, so maybe there'll be better numbers than we think, at least compared to the full season pace at 48 games.

For example, last year, Kessel had 26 goals at the 48 game mark, and then scored only 11 the last 34 games.

Meanwhile, Lupul had 20 goals in his first 48 games, and then got only 5 more in the next 18 before his injury.

As long as both him and Lupul stay healthy, he has a chance to keep the streak going. Last season, a lot of people were talking about 50 in 50 partway through the season. He just entered his prime, he will get better.

Kessel has difficulty scoring under Carlyle's rigid defensive system. In mid-february after scoring only 4 goals and registering an abysmal -22 Kessel is benched. Days later Kessel complains of headaches and is placed on the IR until the end of the leafs 11-30-7 season. Leafs secure 7th pick in the draft lottery.

Carlyle says he wants Kessel to stick around the net a little more and get the garbage pucks that bounce out. Could get him an extra 10 goals.

With the shortened season and the greater emphasis on defensive play, I'd be happy if Kessel broke 20. He'll probably be the only Leaf to get to 20.

The same rigid defensive system that allowed Perry to score 50 goals that he hasn't managed to come close since (in a less rigid defensive system)?
