Yesterday Dryden McKay won the Hobey Baker award I’m surprised havnt seen any teams courting him yet. Will he be signed or will they stay away since he’s 5’11?

How do you know he is not being courted? Do you know him and he has told you that no one has talked to him?
When it comes to UNI players, teams try to be as covert as possible or he has already told people where he wants to go..

I thought he was linked to both Calgary and Vancouver?

Theres no doubt he will be signed. Probably the same path as guys like Vesey where he isnt quite good enough and bounces around for a while

Do you feel good about yourself? He said that we haven’t seen teams courting him. Look at Ben Meyers for example. You got multiple teams that are linked to him. That’s what he means. But you had to pull the “oh do you know him personally?” Bullshit.

If he's willing to sign a 2way deal he'll be signed. If he insists on a 1 way deal I think he'll be signed, but wouldn't guarantee it.

I'd imagine he'd have a handful of teams offering him a contract. I don't think anyone sees him as a future starter but league minimum for a potential backup isn't bad.

Nathan Smith is signing with Arizona on Monday. The press conference is already schedule. No team in the NHL had less goaltending depth. They have only Karel Vejmelka and Ivan Prosvetov signed for next season. That’s it. No other goalies. I would think he’d find that attractive. That clear path to the NHL was enough to entice his teammate Nathan Smith away from Winnipeg and Jack McBain away from Minnesota. It could be a differentiator for McKay also.

To the OP - probably. I would expect almost every team has a book on him and some have probably been speaking to his family advisor/agent for months if not years about interest.

Smith convinced Smith to sign in Arizona you say? Very interesting.

A team will definitely sign him. I think he'll have a few suitors. Oilers for sure I think

I said this last year after the year he had.

They are talking with their goalie coaches and seeing what they think about signing such an undersized goaltender.

I was thinking an AHL deal would be an absolute for sure and depends how desperate a teams prospect pool is and maybe an NHL deal.

he has to sign an ELC which is a two way.

the big issue will be sign this year and play in nhl burning a year vs deferred contract to next year and play in AHL

Since he’s 24, McKay would have to sign a 1 year ELC.

Probably some errors but here’s a ballpark approximation of expected AHL goalies next season. Mix in the various UFA guys as well:

Anaheim: Dostal/Eriksson-Ek/Clang?
Calgary: Wolf/Parsons?
Edmonton: Skinner/Konovalov/Fanti
Los Angeles: Villalta/Ingham/Hrenak
San Jose: ? /Sawchenko /Emond
Seattle: Daccord / ?
Vancouver: DiPietro/Silovs
Vegas: Thompson/Patera/Saville

Arizona: Prosvetov/Korenar?/Tendeck
Chicago: Soderblom?/Morris/Stauber
Colorado: Annunen/Miner
Dallas: Scheel/Poirier
Minnesota: Jones/Baribeau
Nashville: Ingram/Vomacka
St. Louis: Hofer/Ellis/Cranley
Winnipeg: Berdin/Holm

Boston: Keyser/Bussi
Buffalo: Luukkonen/ ? (maybe Levi or Portillo turn pro)
Detroit: Cossa/ ? (Bednar/Eliasson unsigned)
Florida: Fitzpatrick? / Guzda
Montreal: Montembeault? / Primeau
Ottawa: Gustavsson/Sogaard/Mandolese
Tampa Bay: Melnichuk/Miftakhov/Alnefelt
Toronto: Kallgren? / Woll / Scott?

Carolina: Kochetkov/Makiniemi/Warm
Columbus: Tarasov? / Greaves
New Jersey: Daws/Schmid
NY Rangers: Wall/Garand
NY Islanders: Skarek/?
Philadelphia: Ersson/Ustimenko
Pittsburgh: Lindberg/Gauthier
Washington: Fucale/Stevenson/Shepard

Certainly I would think Columbus is an option for him to consider, and them to consider him. Their overall depth is very thin and if Tarasov is the backup in Columbus, that would leave only Jet Greaves in the AHL. While Jet has been very good, that's the end of the Goaltending line in Cbus. Of course there will be options but from an attraction standpoint I think the fit is an option.

He is an interesting goalie.
He put up crazy numbers over his college career but he never had a ton of work or high danger chances because his team played such a strong, structured defensive system. How does he project in an organization that doesn’t play as structured and suddenly he is hung out to dry?
A team like the Isles might be his best bet if he wants to find pro success. They play a similar style that allowed him to succeed in college.
