He's got the wedding hangover out of his system. Guys got 18 points in his last 8 games. Safe to say unless Nikita Mackinnon also go supernova, it's hard to bet against a 27 year old generational player in his prime years.
It’ll be another interesting race. I fully expect McDavid to go 2 PPG the rest of the way and perhaps sit a game at the end, giving him 146 in 78.
MacKinnon and Kucherov both went supernova at the exact point last season and never really let up—9 points in first 10 games for MacKinnon and 11 points in first 10 games for Kucherov before finishing with 131 and 133 in their final 72 games.
Kucherov has the same number of points through 19 games that he had last season, but has been more consistent with how he got there.
MacKinnon started much hotter this season and is in the midst of a brief cooldown with 2 in his last 4, after 33 in his first 17. He’s still 7 points ahead of where he was last season. Interestedly enough, he also “only” had 7 goals through 21 games last season, yet ended up with 51.
For fun, Kucherov had six points in Game 20 last season, MacKinnon had one in his Game 22. It’d be nice to see a low scoring affair to keep McDavid closer while he’s off, but I’m assuming they’re both going to exit tonight with 4-5 points apiece.
