Auston Matthews is starting out this season quite slow.

7 games - only 1 goal (he does have 5 assists, for 6 points total).

Last year he seemed to be on pace for 70 goals for a good while - and he scored 51 goals in 50 games. One of the most impressive goal-scoring seasons in the cap era, and maybe all-time. Everyone expected he'd win another rocket this season, and probably easily. But he's off to a really bad start for goals. Will he bounce back and win still?

He did have a similarly poor start last year - with 1 goal in first 6 games, but with 1 goal in 7 games this year it's even worst.

1 more game played than last season with the same amount of goals to start the year, his slump is worse than I could have possibly imagined..

Matthews vs the field - does he win the rocket, or no? If you vote no - feel free to post a prediction who you think will win.

There's always the chance he has an off year or someone else has a career year to overtake him for the Rocket Richard win, but I wouldn't bet against the guy that has led the league in Goals and GPG for the last 2 years.

The GPG lead he has had over 2nd best is significant as well.

In fact both his goals per game and points per game have gone up every single season of his career so far.

60 goals is definitely not a fluke. Doesn't guarantee he'll hit it again, but he definitely has the ability to.

I am gonna go with no. But not due to his slow start, but just because I think this year it'll be somebody else's turn. Maybe Pastrnak, maybe McDavid.
Matthews will still end up very near the top with a respectable goal total, unless he misses significant time.

Who knows. It was an exaggeration. His posts were the story in a couple of games. He's also shooting 6.3% so far
