With wild having 16 mil in cap room, according to Russo, Guerin whose wild gm has let other teams know he's willing to help, or be the 3rd team to facilitate trades in return for picks or prospects ; assets

I guess I’m uneducated towards the situation but where did the wild get 16 million in Cap space? Obviously Kaprizov would be out along with who else?

Yep. Billy done gone stupid.

O'Reilly is making 6 million this year with 5 million coming in a signing bonus. Assuming that the signing bonus was already paid, Minnesota's eating a prorated amount of the remaining 1 million in base salary.

If I'm doing the math correctly, CapFriendly had O'Reilly's accumulated cap hit today at 5.27 million (roughly 70% of his 7.5 mil cap hit). So O'Reilly is due about 30% of his remaining salary for the year (300K). If Minnesota is eating 25% of that, they're only paying in the neighborhood of $75,000 in actual money but they are assuming a larger cap hit (which they won't necessarily care as much about).

No Kaprizov wouldn’t be out in that situation. It has to do with how you acrue cap-space as the season goes on. It‘a more of a projection. If the wild were to make a trade at the deadline without adding and cap in between then, I think we could add something like a 16M cap hit. Currently, it’s at about 11m that we could add. How did we get there? Management malpractice.

Sorry, we didn't pay $1M for a 4th. Is that better for you?
it's a million when the common way to announce these things is using full cap hit numbers and everyone knows it's prorated but don't want to say $74,xxx

honestly it really doesn't matter one way or the other, it's not a big deal. seems like just doing something for the sake of looking active

Details are important. It was $74k and Pillar for a conditional 4th. Still waiting on what the conditions are.

"For the price of $74,000 in cash and $557,000 in salary-cap retention (the prorated portion of the $1.875 million AAV value the Wild are retaining for O’Reilly), the Wild essentially bought themselves a fourth-round pick in 2025.

The Wild have a little less than $3 million in cap space left, which amounts to the ability to currently add approximately a $10 million player or a total of $10 million in multiple players. So even with Friday’s minimal salary-cap retention, the Wild still have the ability to add players if they want or further play the role of banker by being a third-party conduit. They could also add by acquiring lucrative contracts from cap-strapped teams for picks and prospects."

Seems hardly worth it for MN to facilitate a trade involving a division rival for a 2025 4th.

we paid 1m for a 4th essentially. and we'll do it again.
We also gave away Josh Pillar, who was drafted in the 4th round in 2021.

Don’t know how this makes sense for us

Edit: Pillar’s stats look meh, so makes more sense now

oh no i agree...it doesn't make sense but it doesn't look like it hurts us when i'd guess they are planning on releasing Pillar otherwise. unless it becomes some part of more moves and we flip 3 4th picks into a 3rd or something. the dollar amount/cap amount isn't that much.
