If we didn't trade Fiala, we wouldn't have Faber. I'm ok with that result even if BG lucked into it.
Not 100% sure, but wasn’t there also some worries about all of the salary being tied up in the 2 wingers, considering our center picture wasn’t what it is now?

I kind of remember them wanting to keep some flexibility. Obviously that was before the extensions were put in place…

That was the excuse, but there were definitely ways to make the money work.

It all worked out in the end, but I’d really like to have Fiala locked up on this roster on his current deal.

You’d think Fiala was a Rocket Richard winner the way people talk about him here. Let it go…

This is where I'm at. People need to go and look at the LAK board and see who they feel got the best of that trade.

Of course, at the time I wasn't happy that we weren't able to re-sign Fiala...but now that we are 3 years down the road, I'm glad how it turned out. No shame in admitting that.

i have zero issue with how things turned out (fiala vs faber) , its about me explaining why im no longer a fan of guerin. nobody has proved me wrong and we may as well drop the subject.

Because one can't prove a negative. You said Fiala wanted to be traded, we asked for proof of that. You keep telling US to prove x, y, or z but haven't returned teh favor in the slightest.

Guerin commented that the current political tension between the countries was good for the tournament and "inspired" our players, and such, when asked if he wanted the president to attend tomorrow's game.
Ahh, ok. He’s a candid guy, so that’s par for the course.

It is a little funny seeing people act like the intensity Saturday was strictly political. Meanwhile real hockey fans know it’s because we have been starving for “best on best” international hockey for a decade.

It's not really about being candid, but more about being tone-deaf.

Guerin's quotes per the AP:
“We would love it if President Trump was in attendance,” Guerin said in the interview broadcast on Monday. “We have a room full of proud American players and coaches and staff. Listen, we’re just trying to represent our country the best way we can.”
“I think there was a little bit of a political flair to it. It’s just the time that we’re in,” Guerin said. “If you let it get the better of you, then you’re in trouble. But I do think the players used it as inspiration.”
Most of what he said is pretty factual, or at least obvious. Those players are proud to be wearing the US jersey. Some of the players took the booing of the national anthem emotionally and, in doing so, used it as inspiration. The time we're in is fraught with tension and division, and everything is politically charged right now.

The only part I can find any fault with is his saying "We would love it if President Trump was in attendance", as that's really more of an opinion - his opinion. I would imagine the locker room is probably at least a little split on that. But it's America, and everyone's got an opinion and the right to share it as long as it doesn't actively hurt anyone else.

*edit* They also have the right to be shamed and detested for their outspoken opinions. Actions have consequences.

He wants his team motivated and Trump being there would add to the spectacle and stakes. Not to mention it would be great for the sport. You can despise Trump and still agree that it would be an overall positive for him to attend.

Pretty uncontroversial response from Guerin, IMO.

Considering the taxpayer cost for him to attend, and the dangerous rhetoric about annexing an ally, no, I don't have to agree with that.

Don't forget the cost to the taxpayer while claiming they're removing waste spending, that's as deep as I'll go on that.

the fact billy traded fiala without offering him a decent contract should tell you fiala wanted out. the fact that billy wouldn't answer russo's questions should tell you fiala wanted out. why the F would you trade the teams 2nd leading scorer IF there wasn't a problem? you can't answer any of those ? because im right and your 100% wrong.

No it absolutely would NOT. And that's where I will leave it. Last word. Guerin is a moron.

JFC. If there's anything I care less about, it's anyone else's political opinions. Regardless of what side. No one is winning hearts and minds with this garbage. There is a reason it's not allowed (as evidenced by the last few posts above). Keep this shit off the boards please.

I'm Canadian living in Vancouver from HK/Singapore. Either love the guy or hate it, its simply true he adds a WWE heel flair by attending - Canadians would love to boo the guy especially in current affairs. We'll cheer even louder than normal when Canada scores. That is all I'll say about politics here.

Completely agree with everything you said. The president should be at this game.

You can’t prove *you’re* right. If you could, show the 22-23 roster with Fiala at $8M while being cap compliant. If you can do that, then show the 23-24 roster. If you can do that, show the 24-25 roster. If you cannot provide proof that the *cap* would work, then you have proven absolutely nothing.

Since you haven’t provided these when previously asked, I’ll just mark it down that *you’re* wrong.

Fiala has already had some issues in LA, maybe Billy realized this early, him not offering a decent contract does not mean fiala wanted out either. Maybe he wanted more money and guerin didn't think he was worth it. That doesn’t mean fiala wanted out, I I just don't see a good argument here.

It's all speculation, no way it's proven right either but yes it's time to move on.
