And Svech And Necas….
They kept hammering it in the postgame

0 goals for Necas in the last 13 games
0 goals for Jarvis in the last 13 games
1 goal for Svech in the last 13 games... And it was a ENG

I might be slightly off, one of them I think has one goal but I don't remember, but the big takeaway was that those 3 combined have beaten a goalie once in the last 13 games.

You aren't going to win when your top offensive talent goes ice cold. And it seems like this kind of prolonged tailspin happens to us every year. Does anyone know if this kind of team wide drought happens to other teams every year like it seems to here?

Checks record...

Checks to see if we're in playoff position...

Ok. We're fine. Teams have good stretches and tough stretches every season.

Frustrated? Fine. Just remember the bad old days from time to time and count your blessings, ok?

Back to arguments about whether it's important to hustle, or not, in a game where you're down a hundred goals with thirty seconds left. Enjoy!

Looks like the mid-season blahs have arrived early for the East:

Yup. We’re in the doldrums. We’re still in the playoffs. Better to be hot at the end than the middle. Minny played well and we did not. Collectively. Moving on.

This is a season where a lot of teams are good but no one is great. Last year we were great but so were the Rangers and Panthers of the world.

It’d be perfectly reasonable to make a Guentzel-sized move again this year. Frankly, this might end up being an even better year for that sort of thing than last year. A move to put ourselves on top of the pile of good but not great, instead of the arms race of just trying to keep up with the moves the rest of the league is making.

And get face smashed by NJ or Fla? No thanks.

Nah, that shot hits Kochetkov and the analysis is about how responsible the poke check was because of how he created layers with his body or whatever.

I mean, that illustrates the distinction between analysts only reacting to superficial outcomes versus having a willingness to say “wow, that was a dumb thing to do and he’s lucky it turned out in his favor”.

For some analysts I'd change "willingness" to "ability to recognize the difference." And it certainly relates to fans as well, lol.

The canes are 2-2 against NJ this season. And the only game they played against Florida while able to dress a real life nhl goaltender they won.
And 2 of our games against Jersey we played Martin and Tokarski as well. Hopefully in the playoffs we'll get a steady diet of Andersen and Kochetkov.

I also think we're reaching the part of our contention window where the team's give-a-****-meter in the regular season is a lot less than it was before. We're still a Rod-coached team so we have more GAF than most, but we aren't the scrappy 2019 Canes trying to prove themselves. We know we'll make the dance and the players may be saving themselves a little for the long haul. Wishful thinking, perhaps.

I think the eye test bears this out but I have no stats for it. They sure looked a lot more engaged against Florida and Pittsburgh than they did against Minnesota. And I mean I totally get it- cross conference games matter less and they’ve got a nice cushion. With the metro shaping up like it is the top 3 are pretty comfortable.
