Why would any player not be good at skating

Thanks OP it was so obvious I don't know why I didn't realize this before.

In the NFL some corners cant tackle. Some backs cant catch.

In baseball some middle infielders can't hit and some players cant field worth a shit.

In basketball some guys can't shot and some cant dribble.

It is what it is. Not everyone is good at every aspect of their sport but theyre good enough overall to make it.

Compare the worst 20 skaters in the NHL today to the bottom half in the 80s and you'll see they are all vastly superior.

Watching isles/habes game got me thinking.
I know it more matter of its nhl and everyone good skaters. but it not really the case. There are terrible skaters who slow and lose every race. Charas 12 feet tall and doesnt try and still winning races. Barzal only has speed but makes him dangerous.
Why not just be a better skater, it not like hand eye coordination which is hard to train. Best players in the world always speedy, why not be?
Reading this thread got me thinking.
I know it more matter of its a public form and everyone good posters. but it not really the case. There are terrible posters who slow and have bad posts. illpucks starts new threads every day and the content is still only ok at best. hangman005 posts only main GDTs but makes him appreciated.
Why not just be a better poster, it not like words per minute which is hard to train. Best posters in the world always post good content, why not be?

lol wp

You realize the difference between the best skaters in the league and the average is basically split seconds right? It’s like saying why can’t someone just beat bolt in a foot race? They’re both pro runners why is one not as good as the other? Humans have limitations

Take the best players in the world of any sports, make them play against each others and of course some of them will look « bad ».

I think a way to realize how good they actually are is to watch them live during warm-ups. Just pay attention to those 4th line players who can barely score in the NHL and yet be impressed by how hard and accurate they shoot puck and how quick their hands are.

Also check out their junior and AHL stats...

I don't think the average person appreciates how razor thin some margins are. Like 0.010 is a pretty big difference for goalies, but in actuality, it's essentually 1 goal extra per 100 shots (1 goal per 2-3 games at 20-30 shots per game).

It's perhaps the same with skating speed for nhl players, hardness of shot, decision making etc. A tweener could basically be lemieux or Gretzky in many beer leagues, and they statistically don't even qualify for the NHL full time.
