why nobody is talking about the anaheim ducks rebuild?

I don't think people talk about Anaheim's rebuild because it's not really exciting or notable. It's not like it's a struggling rebuild that should be ahead of where it is, or it has some super exciting players like Celebrini, Bedard or Hutson. It's just a slow burn and a gradual improvement.

With Anaheim, their 3 leading scorers are Terry, Vatrano and Strome and their young guys are solid but not spectacular yet. I think if one of McTavish, Carlsson or Gauthier would take a big step forward, I think they'd be getting more attention. They just haven't done that yet.

That answers OP’s question for sure. Anaheim might be the least interesting team in the league right now, from the outside looking in. It’s hard to think of a reason to watch them, especially now that Zegras has gone quiet.

I do agree with OP that they seem to be playing decent hockey lately with some big wins over good teams. Without a big superstar to build around, they’d be smart to just keep stockpiling young talent in a longer, slower build.

I think a big part of it is the way it’s being done as a more traditional rebuild - draft, improve year by year, etc. with no significant FA additions or additions via trade (yet). When Anaheim inevitably takes their big swing and connects, I think you’ll see a bit more of a microscope.

I’m fine with it, honestly. Team is largely playing really good hockey right now. Keep sneaking up on teams.

It's not terrible nor great.

Not really much to talk about, they got some nice pieces, but nothing crazy

Because it’s really not worth talking about until they actually make the playoffs. Lots of “promising” rebuilds fail

Their rebuild excites me a lot but a) west coast games are hard to catch on the regular and b) most importantly their foundational pieces are taking longer to get up to speed.

MacTavish doesn't look like anything special yet. Zegras hasn't become the exciting and dynamic 85 point guy I thought he would (and maybe never will). Leo Carlsson is IMO the center piece of the rebuild and I think he can become a big, rangy, Kopitar-like player but he's not yet become a major impact player.

As someone else said, if/when Carlsson, Gauthier, MacTavish, Mintyukov, Zellweger, become their best players instead of Vatrano/Strome/Terry, they will be worth watching.

Is there a rival fanbase that is also eager to prove their team is somehow further along or vice versa? It seems there are plenty of things wrapped up in the Atlantic teams that are a function of having multiple teams trying to build and all experiencing various setbacks. If that was the case with say, the Kings at the same moment as the Ducks, I'm sure there would be enough one-upmanship to make it a constant thing one way or the other.

Terry is pretty good. These guys might never be better than him. I guess time will tell.

Because I forgot they exist
Pretty much; when they were good nobody cared, and now with 7 years coming up without making the playoffs, no one even remembers the team exist.

Unless you want to watch fantastic goaltending there really isn't a reason to watch this team, us fans excluded. When Zegras comes back there might be something look for again..

The hype, as in hate around him has been really weird to witness. Everyone getting up and arms over a kid being creative on the ice, doing stuff all of us dreamed about in our pick up games as kids. Him being outgoing and jokingly cocky clearly rubs the people around hockey circles in the wrong way. Also no one cares about EA's stupid franchise, but pitchforks still came out when he gets put on the cover of that pointless game.

I really do enjoy the weird takes with him. You'd think we have Perry reincarnated here. If only, but Z is a blast. However until (if) the kids take next step it's still just middling veterans mixed with young inconsistent talent, and elite goaltending. At this point they should look into if some proven high quality player becomes available, since it seems the actual rebuild part is done. Now it's about competing and getting to the playoffs.

I'd say they are doing okay, but even I get bored talking about this so there isn't much to say. They are towing the line with other crappy teams, hard to say which team (you know the teams in the eternal basement) climbs out of their hole first. Quack Quack.

Meh. Not there yet, and nothing really worth talking about.

Ducks need at least some of their forward kids to get going, players like Carlsson, Zegras, McTavish, and Gauthier have looked good at times but still inconsistent. Ducks PP is one of the issues. Think they’d be in a WC spot now if they had even a half decent PP and if some of these kids were putting up more production.

I still don’t like what Cronin is doing to some of these young forwards, especially to Carlsson.
