I'm sure it's heavily linked to ticket sales and concession revenues. The only locked in variable is likely the television rights.

I would be surprised if Alberta/Edmonton/Red Deer were not at mimimum on the hook for making sure HC and the IIHF broke even. I don't think "tickets sold" has been a HC problem for a long long time.

I doubt they are liable to make them whole. And, they now can't sell concessions and are limited in capacity.

This stuff is bid on with guaranteed money years in advance.

I would be surprised.

To be honest, I'm sure HC and IIHF rather get points on the package than upfront guarantees, since that is where the massive amount of profit is made. In non-covid years, it makes way more sense to make money off of ticket sales than sell the rights to host the tournament for a flat fee.

I get it'd be difficult for a guy like me to book at a hotel for an entire team etc. but an event organizer? A professional? For Hockey Canada and the sacred Jrs (not sarcasm, I love this tourney)... that is not that challenging task IMO

All it takes is money and there is lots to go around... those adds on the boards aren't for Mike's hardware shop in Red Deer.

I would have booked it 18months ago.

I've also seen hotels have lockdowns on certain floors with temporary walls in lobby areas and dedicated elevators to create "entry/exit tunnels. It's not rocket science.

I saw one resort in Dubai put up a scaffold bridge from the balcony of the second floor to the private pool and outdoor dining area of their bubble 40m away. This was for Indian Premier League Cricket.

I think they make money every way in a normal year, but can't see them taking a loss.

Pretty sure the organizers who bid on these tournaments set ticket prices and everything else.

I don't think Hockey Canada has nothing to do with any of that. If they did, they would be involved in everything.

We are going to have to agree to disagree I believe
