Why is there always a man who sits inside the penalty box?

They're like nightclub restroom attendants and they offer up things like cologne, candy and [MOD] to the players.

Wait a second... How did he get his glove caught like that?

 I was really confused at first too, like "did he just rematerialize partway through the door?"

I'm thinking the door was open, and Moss was sticking his hand through the opening and holding on to the other side. As he started out, the guy closed the door too quick and caught his glove. I could actually see that turning into a pretty bad injury, if Moss was a bit slower!

That guy is not actually supposed to be there. The league has been trying to do something about that but he just always finds a way back in

The GIF has been posted on the Coyotes board many times. I don't know how it happened, but I do know that it sums up Moss's career nicely.

They're so calm too. I forgot which player it was but he totally started trashing the penalty box and the guy in there just calmly waited for him to stop.

No doubt you need a guy in there to make sure the players don't leave the box early. The last thing you want is to trust the players. The same players who get penalized for having too many men on the ice.

the video is on youtube. He put him right hand on the door to get leverage and the glove went in and the door space got smaller as the guy opened the door. haha

I used to have this job for one of the University girls hockey teams. I used to jokingly call it speed dating. I'd get 2 minutes with one girl, then she would leave and another one would come in later.

Because when you leave young people in charge of stuff like that you get the Eden Hazard vs. Ball-boy situation.

Job probably pays over $100k too.

Think so? It's def a friend / old guy you owe job then when you could get guys to do it for free or close to minimum wage

Working 41 days a year for 4 hours a night with front row seats to your home team pulling 100 k is a dream job

Need someone to make sure the players don't leave the penalty box too soon.

Yeah, I bet player is only allowed to leave penalty when the door is opened for him, not to open itself. They could "steal" some time.

He's there to check ID's; to make sure the correct player is in the box and on the guest list.

I highly doubt it. Once you get beyond the players, coaches and executives (the guys with 'scarce skills') and maybe the on-ice officials pro hockey is not the place to be to earn lots of money.

$40 - $50 per game is more like it.

Several years ago I spoke with a penalty box guy at Staples, and he got his job because an NHL official that lived down the street from his family was retiring, and they needed a new guy.

The first game he worked was the first hockey game he saw live.
