Why is the OHL stalling on realignment

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I think Burlington ONT will be in play for a relocated or expansion team for the 26/27 season once the CHL?NCAA and NHL thing gets resolved. Andlauer and team has ties to Burlington and area and there is currently a bill/plan with Burlington city council regarding a new arena being built on land owned by him/his corporations.

There no acceptable temporary arena for a team to play in while the new arena is getting built (and it won’t be built in time for 26-27…there hasn’t even been a hint of a shovel in the ground yet).

I think there might be one somewhere around Mississauga.

Yes, I’ve heard of one vacant candidate. There should be another one 10 mins up the street too.

LOL.

It really comes down to whether a new franchise would be ok in a temporary location while their new digs get built.

Also, I think the league would need to know the new rink isn’t just a proposal but 99% approves with some sort of firm opening date.

Unfortunately, probably the only marginally suitable temporary alternative in the area

Certainly not terrible - new and in very good shape - but seats only about 1,500

That is why I pointed to the Hersey Centre. That is the most viable arena. If they are there for only two years while building out of expansion, they can get two building years under their belt and move into the new rink in Burlington with at least somewhat of a more mature team. Their initial draft picks will be 18 year old players. The more keen Burlington fans will travel the 30 minutes to home games in Mississauga. It really depends on the expansion owner’s appetite for losing money in the first two years.

I think for Burlington, they could come close to breaking even operating in Mississauga for two years if they do a very good job marketing and building interest leading up to the point their new rink opens. Mississauga should manage to pull in around 1500 per game by simple fact there is a team in the rink. If Burlington can add another 750 people, maybe they do ok enough to at least get the ball rolling?

The one advantage is that you have to think Oakville residents would support the Burlington team. If true, Oakville slides in the middle of Mississauga nad Burlington and can be a bit of a starter fan base out of Mississauga. But, it really comes down to their ability to market it.

Oh my friend haha….if only it took 30 mins to get from Burlington to the Hershey Centre 😂

If Burlington is awarded an expansion franchise and the owners are willing to lose some money until the new arena is finished, they may as well play at Sixteen Mile. At least there, there would be a decent/good atmosphere with the limited seating (should sell out most games). Plus it would be probably be very worthwhile to court and cultivate a following for the team in Oakville that might follow the team to their eventual move to Aldershot.

Are you trying to suggest that GTA traffic is heavy? Since when?

The advantage of the Hershey Centre is a quality building with proper facilities for the players.
