Why is Crosby considered a clutch SCF performer?

Agree, and yet Crosby was on Selke ballots, at times receiving more first place Selke votes than Bergeron - which is utterly preposterous IMO:

Last season Crosby was on the ice for a whopping 93 ES goals against - one of the worst defensive season for any forward in decades, did not penalty kill - and still 18 voters had the temerity to claim he was a top 5 defensive forward in the entire NHL.

I still am not sure what you're implying. Are you implying that Sid didn't win the Selke therefore he's terrible at hockey? Or are you implying that some ppl think Sid was one of the best 5 defensive forwards in hockey (which is something you disagree with)? It's an honest question

Ovi is a winger. It seems like you might be implying that Ovi was better defensively -- and therefore had more of a 200 ft impact and / or a more impactful defensive impact wrt to his role - than Sid did. Is that what you're implying? Just making sure I understand your argument

I'm suggesting that Crosby's defense is worth not much of anything in the big scheme of things - because it's almost entirely a myth to begin with.

I think Crosby belongs nowhere near anyone's Selke ballot ever. I think his supporters basically started pretending he was good at defense right when he was no longer a contender for the Art Ross. There is no statistical evidence for Crosby's defense or his defensive responsibilities suddenly improving in his later years.

It's nothing more than politicking.

I've never heard "Crosby is a clutch playoff performer". Ever.
He's always been one of the best players on the ice...but I genuinely haven't heard people talk about how he elevated his game in the playoffs or the Final, like I've heard about Draisaitl. Or Justin Williams.

Watch them?

Especially in 2016 and 2017 he was clearly the best player game by game. In 2008 he was 20 years old being shadowed by the best, most underrated still, defensive fwd in the game at that time while attacking Lidstrom, the best defenseman in the world at that time by a mile.

Honestly, I don't disagree. But Ovi also belongs nowhere near anyone's Selke ballot ever so to me it seemed a bit weird you brought him up as a comparison (regardless of avatar or fandom).

This thread is about Sid's clutchness in the SCF -- and Sid did have at least one clutch defensive play that I remember (as a neutral) when it mattered most in the SCF. 100% agree that's not enough to get him 'near anyone's Selke ballot ever' nor should it be.

Thx for clarifying your argument, much appreciated over here. Imo if ppl are comparing his defensive abilities to legitimately elite defensive fwds like Datsyuk, Bergeron, Fedorov etc (or even someone like Forsberg) then imo those ppl are completely delusional

Ha! Williams was a decent player with lots of room to "raise his game"

Guys like Sid, Gretz Mario....their game always at such a high level. Raising their game at play off time was not an issue.

Wonder if McDavid's stats are engraved on any cup rings

Too early to tell (but to be clear I respect the f*** out of a McD as player but we'll see if he gets there as a leader of an NHL team). Imo leadership is a different thing than being an amazing player which McJesus clearly is.

To be more clear about this, as far as I understand it, this is a Sid thread. And he's done more than enough to be considered clutch.

Pure envy when ever anyone tries to trash him.
Guys used to do same to Gretz and Mario. ..... they they just stopped.

Noted clutch Stanley cup champion Leon Draisaitl
