Not insure if this has been brought up in the last few years but I think it's time the Florida panthers retire his number. I grew up playing hockey while Bure was electrifying our building every night. The entire arena stood up every time he flew down the ice. We'll never have another player like him. It's a shame it only lasted 3.5 seasons but I think him scoring 251 points in that timeframe is worthy enough. His impact for local youth hockey was immeasurable. Why hasn't this happened yet? Please enlighten me panther fans.

He wasn't here long enough.

It would make our team even more of a laughing stock. Retire a jersey requires allot more then Bures short but good stint in S.Florida.

Who cares what other fan bases think about us. I think his impact on hockey development in our youth leagues is more telling than spending 4 seasons here.

Either way it's ridicolous no matter how you slice it hence why his #10 is not in the rafters. Don't get me wrong he is my favourite Panther of all time and top 5 player of all time.. His #10 is in the rafters at Vancouver where it belongs. I care about not making a mockery of this tradition.

What tradition? We have nobody in the rafters but bill torrey. The Canucks retired Bure's number and all he did was take them to the finals his first season. He spent 7 seasons with them and 4 with us. Oh The mockery?!?

All he did? My guess is you are to young to understand. Either way lets see what others have to say about it.

If luongo spends 3 more quality years here but doesn't take us deep into the playoffs does he deserve to get his number up there?

In that case Luongo would have spent 11 years here and been the undisputed face of the franchise. So yes, that's worthy of a jersey retirement.

We all know how good he was, but you don't retire a guy's jersey that only spent a few seasons here. And if I recall correctly, he didn't do much off the ice with the franchise.

It's obvious he did little off the ice. I meant his impact on our young fans and the local youth hockey programs. Kids here started playing because they saw Pavel Bure paying hockey for the panthers.

What is the cut off for years played for a franchise? This isn't the hall of fame we're talking about.

10+ years. Bures case is actually discussed here on hfboards and Vancouver fans. Some of them think they have a to low standard.

"Sorry (new player), but you can't wear number 10 here because Pavel Bure played here a little over three seasons."

It just doesn't make enough sense. He wasn't here long enough and is not uniquely tied to the Panthers brand. The Panthers only made the playoffs once while he was here and were ousted in four games.

He was an amazing player though.

we can put it right next to our "7th man" banner :sarcasm:

we never really had anyone really worthy of truly retiring their number. id say the only ones to be in the conversation would be beezer, mellanby, and luongo.

His response: "WOW the Russian rocket?!?! He's a legend!!"

His Next response: "who the hell is mellenby, beezer, and skrudland?!"

You mean the 1986 Venzina winner and one of Rangers all time greats aswell as leading Panthers to a Stanley Cup final where he had one of the greatest goalie matchups with the legend Roy? Who are you again?
