Why has Taylor Hall failed to find a home?

Well, he had no say in. being traded to NJ. Didn't ask out and didn't really refuse to go either.

NJ had that one playoff year where he won the Hart, then they started sucking again so they shipped him to Arizona to avoid losing him for nothing in UFA.

Buffalo was a miscalculated decision. He figured he'd rack up the points with Eichel, which never happened. The entire time he was chomping at the bit to play in Boston and finally got his wish when he refused to be traded anywhere else and then re-signed on a. fair deal.

TBH he was traded yesterday because Bostons salary cap situation isn't very good.

I'm sure it's a what if for Hall. If Edm takes the C in Seguin, he would have been a Bruin from the start of his career.

Problem in the locker room

Remember when he wasn’t scoring for a while on the Devils and cupped his hands to his ears after he finally scored a goal

Realized then that’s why the dude gets traded place to place. Not a winner

Looking back after 13 years, were either Taylor or Tyler really that franchise changing player?
Not even close. I know it's a rhetorical question.

Good, not great players. Slight dissapointments.

As for the OP, I think a few of the trades had nothing to do with personality/production. Moreover circumstances.

Edmonton-Chiarelli. Bad GM. Historically bad in fact.

Buffalo-Rental

Boston-cap crunch

He's a great complimentary player, but at the end of the day he's a complimentary player. Those guys move around, especially the more expensive ones.

During his 6 year prime (2013-2019), Tyler Seguin was 2nd behind only Sidney Crosby in scoring among centers. How on earth is that a disappointment??
Not saying he's a bum. I just expected more when he was drafted. Never stood out in the postseason. Never 100 points. No major trophies.

Maybe I was expecting too much.

So not a dissapointment. I was harsh in that respect.

Hall had great numbers on the Devils.

Hall hasn't found a home, because:

1. He's had the unfortunate luck of being traded to and/or signing with teams that eventually went into rebuilds. He has a relatively high salary and is a good asset, so he gets flipped from those rebuilding teams.

2. He made that baffling move to sign with Buffalo on a one year contract, instead of signing on a contender for a longer contract.

I mean pretty much nobody was scoring 100 points during his prime, scoring was much lower.

Hard to say a guy who is 2nd in his position in scoring over a 6 year period is anything but a franchise player. Unfortunately Dallas did a poor job of building around him.

Injuries have obviously taken their toll, but it's hard to argue that he wasn't a franchise center in his prime.
That’s not true. Tavares, Backstrom and Giroux all had more points than Seguin through that stretch. Malkin would have lapped him if not for his own injury issues as well. Arguably stamkos as well with 100 less games.

You're using a 7 year sample through 2020.

From 2013-14 to 2018-19 he was indeed 2nd in scoring among centers.

He has the cap hit of a core player due to his numbers but the skillset of a complimentary player, albeit an elite one. Guys like that move often unless they're lucky enough to find the right place.
I wish one of my coaches would've called me an "elite albeit complimentary player". Would have been better than you're not that good lol.

That's 7 seasons?
You’re right it is. He also played mostly wing in 2013. He was technically second in that timeframe but it’s still by virtue of other players being hurt and missing time. Stamkos and Malkin were distinctly better than him in that stretch and expanding to other positions I don’t think anyone would have considered him a top 10 player even in his prime. I wouldn’t consider him a franchise player. First line center? Yes. Elite forward? Yes. No team with Seguin as their best player is winning the cup.
