Regarding contract, compared to Doc's pay from the Devils when he started doing national games, I'm sure Sam has been getting paid enough money to make national games not worth his time for a while now.
Why doesn't Sam get national games?

Maybe if he was doing color instead of play-by-play. It's like a train wreck, so you can't look away, at first, but once you do you don't want to see it ever again.

I was at the first post-dark ages playoff game in NJ at CAA. The Devils won 6-1 and had I think 5 power PP goals. Every time they scored those douchebags would mock Sam and say "it's a Powerplay goal! f*** you Sam Rosen!" We were also seated next to an obnoxious fan who wouldn't shut up even though my friends and I were respectful. One of the worst fanbases in all of sports.

I’ve seen his backyard during the ice bucket challenge and yes, this seems to be the case. I also recall him have a beautiful wife and family. I think he’s A ok with his situation.

Sam & JD also did playoff games together for ESPN back in the late 80s. I found a clip on youtube where they were setting the stage for an Edmonton-Winnipeg 2nd round game in '87.

Jim Gordon will always be my personal favorite. Bill Chadwick not so much.

Let me second this. I met Sam’s son Matt (AZ resident) on a flight and he couldn’t have been nicer. I’ve ran into Sam at least 4-5 times on the road and he always has time to stop and talk. Great people.
One last note on Jim Gordon. The Syracuse University grad (my school) started doing Ranger games in 1955. For those of us of a certain age he was the voice of hockey. He also did games on CBS. Also, much like Sam, a very nice man I had the chance to meet on several occasions. He had a terrific run.

Yea but not since Versus switched to NBCSN and he never calls games on NBC. I’m pretty sure it’s contractual, and MSG is written in, which is a crying shame if we don’t get to hear him come playoff time if we make it to the show somehow this yearHe’s called national games on Versus while also calling NFL on Fox. Obviously not the same day.

I know he did some games in the playoff series when the low seed Habs upset the caps in 7. I remember him calling the dom Moore goal
I watch a lot of differebt broadcast teams around the league and a lot of rangers since the last 2 years. Im not hating on him and his got a good voice and a nice personality but he makes a lot of mistakes on the players.... maybe its age but thats the only thing really
