Why doesn’t NHL broadcast LIVE the draft lottery number draws?

Y’all roasted me for suggesting this idea last year…and here the nhl is deciding to do this. Everyone that roasted me, stick this up your ass

Nice job bumping your own year old thread.

"NHL Draft Lottery to be Held Live on TV will be Really Compelling"

Meanwhile, we haven't even exited the first round of the playoffs.

Hmmm.

I'm guessing the NHL will change up the process a little. Those videos the league releases of the actual lottery are not TV friendly. They'll probably pause after each ball and quickly show the revised odds each time.

Gotta work out the kinks on this before they rig that Pittsburgh win next year. Smart to get ahead of it. How can anyone complain it’s rigged if you’re watching the live draw process…the one established last year before the most obvious preplanned winner since the Crosby draft miraculously came true…again!

Televising something math-related will not be watched, at least in America. Not sure if people have seen the USA's world math rankings. And there's a plethora of foil hats in the country as well, so there will be accusations of conspiracy no matter how transparent it is.

They literally show the camera each numbered ball going into a see-through container before the numbers are picked so you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Must see tv! Almost fell asleep hearing Bettman's monotone voice for 45 seconds.

It depends on what the ball girl looks like

If they used a random number generator, they could do it live and do the reveal the same way they do it now

I like the way the draft lottery works in NBA 2K video game. NHL could steal it

Rigged and purposely made cryptic with thousands of numbers based on odds matching to a list so even if they did show it live no one at home could verify it. They could easily put more team balls to match odds and show it live.

didn't the mess up the mcdavid draft? burning a number they weren't suppose to.

I remember the day of that draft lottery. I went downtown to a sports bar to watch it, incidentally enough with a couple people who were HF posters and fellow Coyotes fans (I even went to an arena football game right afterwards with one of them, since the sports bar we chose was right next door to the arena of the Phoenix Suns, which is where the local arena football team played at the time). It's likely that we had to harass someone in order to get them to put the draft lottery show on one of their televisions, but I don't remember doing that (just that it was likely that we had to). The show was also either at low volume or muted (but I don't remember which).

In any case, I don't remember anything feeling "off" or "messed up" about that draft lottery, other than being quite upset at the Oilers winning the first overall pick, since the Coyotes had finished 29th out of 30 that year, so that meant we got bumped back to 3rd. I reacted to the bad news by having way too much to drink at the arena football game afterwards, leaving at halftime, and ranting about how I was ready to draft Noah Hanifin on the light rail on the way home to anyone who would listen, which was nobody.

Revealing the teams from worst to best makes for more interesting TV. Can't do that live with the current lottery ball system.
Agreed. Unless you are an absolute die hard who has the number combinations for the teams (ie. get it online to do a search), that 4 or 5 digit combination means nothing to you unless you know the team that owns that number combo.
Some person in a suit is going to check either a computer or paper to look it up and then tell Bettman, it's SJ, CHI, PHI, Bos or whomever. Not exactly riveting TV.

That's why they don't do that live. They will release it afterwards, but it's not a made for TV event.

Different if there were 1000 ping pong balls with team logos on it. Which you can see right away when it is drawn.

If the league wanted to fix the lottery, McDavid would have gone to Philly a decade ago and played five times a year against Crosby.

I don't particularly want to know how this sausage is made. Daly flipping the cards is enough excitement for one night.
