Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why Manitoba is going to hit thirty years without being considered as a host for the world Juniors? Last hosted in ‘99, it’s embarrassing that Hockey Canada bypasses them again and again. How many times has the maritimes hosted since 1999? There’s already rumblings that Saskatchewan will host in 2029 leaving Manitoba on the outside looking in again for another decade….

Most of the other locations have made use of multiple arena's, that's likely why. When it's in Saskatchewan one pool plays games in Regina, and the other in Saskatoon. Is there a 2nd arena in Winnipeg that is reasonably modern with 5000+ capacity?

The Keystone Centre in Brandon is basically what they have within Manitoba. Modern it is not, but good enough for the WHL. In other words if they really wanted to have it in Manitoba, it would be possible.

You can make it seem like the arenas are so modern in Regina and Saskatoon all you want but certainly no more modern then Canada Life Centre and the tournament has long given a free pass to the secondary venue (ie Keystone Centre) provided the primary is adequate…bottom line is if it’s supposed to be a Canada wide event, then make it so instead of excluding one province year after year..

I never said anything of the like. The Canada Life Centre blows both of those venues out of the water lol. I think had the Ice gotten a new facility like it was promised when they had the WHL in Winnipeg, it would have made a bid a shoe in to win. Maybe they need to put in a bid along with a renovation to Keystone proposal. I've never been but a google search tells me Hockey Canada would never play games in it's current state. I think 5k capacity is more than enough though.

Wasn’t the secondary venue when Buffalo hosted the World Juniors a couple of years back 1,800 seat capacity? As, stated earlier by another poster, if there was a want by Hockey Canada, they could host it in Manitoba. The 5000 seat capacity of Westoba is enough and the arena in its current format is more than sufficient for WHL games. Didn’t it also host a Mem Cup in 2010? Didn’t seem so dilapidated at that point…

Brandon, Manitoba
Lack of WiFi.
I dunno if you know this, but the Keystone has wi-fi.

Google is very wrong then, considering the Keystone has just finished a major renovation this summer for the seats, and is going to renovate the main concourse washrooms and other aspects next summer.

Realistically, it would be Brandon and the Keystone as a secondary city for pool play, and Winnipeg and Canada Life for Team Canada, with Hockey for All Centre and somewhere like Steinbach/Niverville for tune up games.

1999 was a great tournament. I wish the ending was better in overtime, but overall that was an excellent venue and if I recall Winnipeg smashed the attendance record at the time. It went to show you that the Jets shouldn't have lost their team in 1996. I am wondering if the economy is part of it. Canada overall is sinking financially, but Manitoba is not one of the better provinces at the moment. This is part of the reason why the Jets haven't sold out their games despite being a good team. So that could be part of it.

Another thing too is that this tournament is huge now. Lots of money in it. They are going to pick the venue that brings in the most money, especially one in Canada. It is politics sometimes too, and also there are plenty of places in Canada vying to host the tournament. Lots of competition.

Haven’t the maritimes hosted it three times since Manitoba last got a crack? Saskatchewan (again) being front runner in 2029? Nuff said….speaks volumes…

Any location in Canada with two decent venues in reasonable proximity to each other would be ideal, Winnipeg/Brandon included.

I wish we had a city in the USA where the primary rink would be packed with American fans, but that's a fantasy at this point. Even hosting it in fly-in destinations for Canadian fans like LA, Las Vegas, Tampa, Miami, etc. wouldn't work to our advantage.

Have you been to both of those cities? Do you really want these cities representing Canada haha.

But if Saskatoon and Regina can hold the world juniors event there's no reason Peg and Brandon couldn't. All these cities are no different than one another.
