The NHL has 217 NTC and Minimal NTC's
3rd liners have these clauses
3rd pair dman are getting these clauses
From the Athletic "One reason no-trade clauses are so rare is a rule in the collective bargaining agreement that says a player has to have played in the NBA for at least eight seasons and played for the team he is signing with for at least four seasons."

The NBA has smaller rosters and larger payrolls/salaries in comparison.

Thanks, I was about to post a whole load of bullshit.

7 seasons or over age 27. It might be more due to the NBA being all about player movement and choosing their landing spot. NM isn't much of a carrot if you aren't in one of the marqee markets.

It definitely doesn't make hockey that exciting.
Everybody looks forward to the TDL and UFA season but then it is not that exciting.

As others have mentioned, different cbas.

In general, the NBA is a league that seemingly prioritizes player movement with its rules, while the NHL seems to do the opposite, seeking to restrict player movement as much as possible (hard cap, longer RFA status). Definitely, different priorities.

What I don't like about the NHL's no trade clause system, is that the player can hold the team hostage where he requests a trade, and the team still has to abide by that, therefore getting a decent return for the disgruntled player is much less, and often times having to retain salary for a team that he wants to go to, to take him.

IMO if you request a trade, your no trade should be voided.

If you wanted the team to make a committment to you, you keep your commitment as well.

Seems fair to me.

NMCs should be gotten rid of forever. They are terrible for the sport. I think both parties can break a NMC. The hostage part is the big issue
