From the Athletic "One reason no-trade clauses are so rare is a rule in the collective bargaining agreement that says a player has to have played in the NBA for at least eight seasons and played for the team he is signing with for at least four seasons."The NHL has 217 NTC and Minimal NTC's

The nba players are more powerfull than the NHL players. Each league has a different CBA.
They still have to follow their CBA.The nba players are more powerfull than the NHL players.

NHL 7 or 8 yrs as wellFrom the Athletic "One reason no-trade clauses are so rare is a rule in the collective bargaining agreement that says a player has to have played in the NBA for at least eight seasons and played for the team he is signing with for at least four seasons."
7 seasons or over age 27. It might be more due to the NBA being all about player movement and choosing their landing spot. NM isn't much of a carrot if you aren't in one of the marqee markets.NHL 7 or 8 yrs as well
It definitely doesn't make hockey that exciting.7 seasons or over age 27. It might be more due to the NBA being all about player movement and choosing their landing spot. NM isn't much of a carrot if you aren't in one of the marqee markets.
Seems fair to me.What I don't like about the NHL's no trade clause system, is that the player can hold the team hostage where he requests a trade, and the team still has to abide by that, therefore getting a decent return for the disgruntled player is much less, and often times having to retain salary for a team that he wants to go to, to take him.
IMO if you request a trade, your no trade should be voided.
If you wanted the team to make a committment to you, you keep your commitment as well.
NMCs should be gotten rid of forever. They are terrible for the sport. I think both parties can break a NMC.
