Wouldn't it make more sense to try to have back to back games for the home team and have two visiting teams not on back to back games come into town two days in a row.

Alternatively, they could try to get back to back games as home and away games for the same two teams.

It seems to me that most of the back to back games involve travel (either two away games or one home and one away game) making the disadvantage of having to play two nights in a row even bigger.

I guess it may be because they want to spread out the dates for home fans and having two games two days in a row might not work that well in some markets.

Business considerations sometimes take precedence over competitive considerations.

because scheduling this many games in this many arenas is hard. Especially since so many other events are scheduled in the same arenas.

The stats show that that when both teams are on a back to back, the road team fares almost as badly or even worse than when one team is on a back to back and the other isn't. The Isles who have had many back to backs this season, maybe the most in the league have had 2 or 3 where they were home for both and 2 or 3 where it was a home and home with the opposition.

fwiw - The Islanders don't have the most back to backs:

They also travel the 3rd least miles in the league

We've had barely any, which is why we have 4 games in hand on the ****ing universe
