Why does every back-up goalie where a hat on the bench?

They don't always wear hats.

where is his hat, he looks sad that he lost it

If the goalie is changed mid-game does someone get him his own hat from somewhere or does he have to wear the backup's hat? Hatters gonna hat.

Someone on here once said that teams strongly encourage that backups/players wear team/sponsor hats during interviews or whenever they're on camera.

I'd like to know if there's any truth to that.

IIRC, Reebok has exclusivity 90 minutes before a game until 90 minutes after the game. The more visible Reebok logos during that timespan, is probably for the better.

I don't think there's an actual rule, just encouraged.

Good question it all dates back when goalies didn't wear helmets. Back then they didn't have brutes and awesome sticks. So if a puck went at the bench it'd be going slower and a goalies reflex could dodge it. You see back then they didn't need a hat because of this. Now guys are big and strong and the sticks are amazing. The goalies need protection they need that hat. When the puck goes towards em on the bench they face there head towards the puck protecting the teeth on the face because players lose enough already. Anyways the hat is reinforced with bullet proof material that can protect you from a bullet. Why not a puck? So the puck hits there hat on there head protecting them. They then protect themselves and have all the teeth they came to the game with.

Now have you seen 007 Oddjob? If no basically he threw his hat and it could kill someone. Now the players on the bench can't bring any guns with em. How are they going to protect themselves? Backup goalie hat. Only weapon needed to protect them. Though it is shaped like a ball cap it can only knock someone out not kill them. Wondering why those goalies got crazy eyes? They have to be aware ever moment you never know when a terrorist attack is going to happen. There's a reason why they added the rule of no extra players going on the ice during a fight and being a 10 game suspension. Before the league was televised and forced Hats on people a couple back up goalies charged on the ice knocking everyone out with there hat. Luckily the goalie had a hat stashed In his pads. Also illegal however after the one time of crazy Patrick knocked a goalie out he was out 3 months. Concussions weren't even a thing!!

Anyways hope this explains why they wear hats. None of this "teams want them to show off the hats so they can be bought" that answer is crap and is media and leave propaganda to hide the real reason.

:amazed: at this.

Hmmmm. Whereing hats, huh? Interesting.

Didn't know you could where a hat.

Someone did answer well, though, because hockey players do always wear hats. I have one on right now at work because it's "casual Friday". The only time I don't have a hat on is if I'm going out to a nice restaurant or venue, I'm sleeping, or I'm at the office and it's not "casual Friday".

I just like wearing hats. Maybe backups just like wearing hats as well. :dunno:

I'd assume it's the same reason you see so many football coaches wearing them - sponsorships. Push that team merch.

Also, lol Kris.
