Why Do We Have 3 Goalies with 2 0n the Way

Adin Hill could have been a good addition but 6 x 6.5M probably wouldn’t have been ideal for us.
I mean that's the thing, any attractive name likely requires a longer deal. If Cossa or Augustine don't hit, than we can all circle back with our pitch forks, but the prudent thinking is to go the stop gap route.

This is the thing that concerns me about our North American pro scouts: so many of our free agent signings have been non-factors. Part of that is just how free agency goes, but Gosthisbehere is the only signing where we acquired a true difference maker, at least at one end of the ice. That's a very low hit rate.

Why are we expecting or entitled to sign "difference makers" in free agency when so few difference makers actually make it to free agency? Like I said before, this is probably less about scouting and more about what is actually available in free agency. I don't think there is anyone is pro-scouting that told Yzerman that Andy Copp was going to put up 70pts as a number two center on the Wings. The Wings knew what they were getting. The conversation was likely more along the lines of we know what Andy Copp has done historically, we absolutely need another center, he is likely the best player available to us who can play any center at all in free agency, he is going to cost us but we absolutely need another center and have nothing close to ready in GR, if we hit in the draft or free agency in the future, we can always bump him to the wing.....

Where pro scouting has likely failed us is in the trade market, not free agency.

And I'm not sure how much it has really failed us there, or if we just aren't in a position to match what other teams are offering (or players have actively blocked deals to us). You mentioned wanting Carlo, saw an article yesterday saying we were in on it but Toronto's offer was just better.

Maybe Yzerman was just being too cheap, I don't know, but I can't really blame him for not offering up a 1st there.
