Why do the Flyers play so many day games?

Yeah, the 76ers play tonight in Philly. There is your answer for probably 90% of the Flyers day games. The building hosts 2 games in a few hours.
And they probably prefer to go hockey first due to ice conditions. Could you imagine how bad the ice would be 2 hours after a basketball game was played? Yikes!

Kind of stupid for the Flames. Because of the early start it was their 3rd road game in 3.75 days. Really dumb scheduling on the league’s part.

You can say dumb scheduling, but it's still incredible that they're able to work these schedules into arena that house 1-2 other pro sports teams plus concerts and other events. Wells Fargo Centre, for example, is home to 4 pro sports teams - the Flyers, the 76ers, the Wings (NLL), and the Soul (AFL).

I did the math in an earlier thread:

Number of daytime games per team for 18-19 NHL season

Philly and Toronto are the opposite extremes. I guess some teams just get to dictate when they play.

My feeble understanding of pro sports is that the sports teams select dates to play at home based on arena availability. The teams select the time to play. If you have 2 events on one day, usually the second team to schedule that date pays for a change over crew. At the Bradley Center, the Bucks were the #1 tenant, with the Admirals second, then Marquette Men's basketball, then the Wave and the Mustangs (indoor football). This season, the Admirals have no Sunday afternoon home games because they didn't get any from the AHL. They typically have 4 to 6 a season after Pro football is over during the 28 years at the Bradley Center. The IHL used to schedule home games by the seniority of the teams playing in the league.

Many years ago, I went with my soccer team to see to see a Milwaukee Wave game on a Saturday at 1 PM at the Bradley Center. Five minutes after the horn sounded (3 PM), about 2 dozen people were pulling up the artificial turf in carpet like strips and dragging it off from the south end of the floor. Then they were pulling up a thin pad. Then they pulled up the brown plastic insulation over the ice. It looks and feels like the sidewall of a cooler for a picnic, maybe 4 by 2 feet and about 2 or 3 inches thick. Those were stacked like boxes on pallets and removed by a forklift near the north end of the floor. They were about a quarter of the way done by the time we were asked to leave by the security people.

I was back at 6 PM or so for the 7 PM Admirals game with my wife. The Zamboni must have just been out because the ice was wet when we came in.
