Why did the Kings miss the playoffs in 2003?

The 2003-03, 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons were so riddled with injuries that people came up with not one but TWO (joke) curse theories.

I picked my user name as a faux tribute to that era, in particular Deadmarsh, Allison, Flynn and Heinze, who basically all had career ending concussion/whiplash injuries, although Allison did eventually come back for one season in Toronto.
